Lib Dem MPs slam county council over new SEND casework policy Liberal Democrat MPs Al Pinkerton, Chris Coghlan, Helen Maguire, Monica Harding, Will Forster and Zöe Franklin have written to Surrey County Council’s cabinet member for children, families and lifelon...

Lack of support for children with special educational needs and disabilities commonly known as SEND, is one of the biggest issues in my postbag as #Woking’s MP. Yet Tory-run #Surrey County Council is refusing to reply to MPs about SEND! 😡

BROADWATER PARK PROJECT MOVES FORWARD 🛹🚲🌳

❇️ As promised a week or so ago, below is an update on Broadwater Park following our meeting this evening where Waverley BC has taken the next steps to advance the project.

1️⃣ The landfill monitoring continues (and tomorrow residents might see one of the 3-4m borehole drilling rigs being erected at the centre of the site).

2️⃣ We have approved funding and the process to create and submit a planning application for the capping of the landfill that will follow the conclusion of the survey works.

3️⃣ We have also now commissioned the formal ‘options appraisal’, based on the last round of engagement with the public.

➡️ When this is complete it will outline the different possibilities (and how we do it technically and looking at the costs and implementation) for this large site and we will go back out to public consultation, as promised, when that report is available.

🚩 Re: the borehole, the areas will be barriered off around the vicinity of the specific works to complete the testing and access for the public will remain as it is now.

Happy to take further questions!

Cllr Paul Follows
Leader, Waverley Borough Council

Note: the map below is an approximate outline of the section with landfill under it (but should also include the football pitch). This is really just to indicate scale of the land available for leisure use.

LOCAL ELECTIONS CANCELLED
SURREY CONSERVATIVE REQUEST TO CANCEL LOCAL ELECTIONS THIS YEAR HAS BEEN GRANTED BY THE GOVERNMENT
‼️ After many delays and so many rumours coming from all sides, I am dismayed to inform residents that the Surrey County Council Elections, scheduled for May 2025 have been CANCELLED.‼️
➡️ As I have posted previously, the Conservative leadership of the County Council put in a request to cancel the elections and this was opposed by me and my colleagues at every level.
🛑 The government have chosen to grant their request and press ahead with a rushed, unplanned local government re-organisation in Surrey (and several other counties in England).
❇️ There are many questions that will now follow this announcement. I will be asking them. I will be in the room (as the Leader of Waverley) for the discussions and negotiations that come next with the intention of seeking a unitary authority that continues to fully and properly represent the people of Waverley.
❇️ I will report back to residents and councillors as frequently and fully as I am able to during this process.
🛑 I consider this an affront to your democratic rights and a regrettable decision from all of the local Conservatives to pursue this and of the government to grant it.
