@thomasflight.nebula.tv Fantastic analysis on your recent Severance video. There are like a bajillion videos breaking down the cinematography of the show (and to be fair I haven't watched all of them) but I feel like you've managed to articulate ideas I've never seen or even thought of before.

You watch movies all the way through because you’re a coddled baby who needs the meaning of a story spoon fed to you. If you were comfortable with ambiguity you’d stop watching ten minutes before the end

You didn’t put an anamorphic flare in a spherical movie, did you? Using The White Lotus season three meme template of someone disappointing you.

I guess Ken Kutaragi was onto something after all. You put the SNES in the digital locker and let it grow

one thing i keep thinking about is how there is simply no way to design a constitutional system that can resist authoritarian incursion if participants in that system do not actually care that much

The first part is obvious, but I didn't make the connection to the second part (that "multiples are punishable by death") until further reflection.

Futhermore, when things go wrong – not necessarily through any flaw in the tech itself or due to any actions by the "expendable", but simply due to some kind of bureaucratic snafu – the result is that system punishes the people already being exploited.

Corporations will lobby for its use in places outside of view of most people, and desperate and disenfranchised people will be coerced into allowing it to be used on them without understanding what they might be signing up for.

I liked its exploration of the social effects of what would happen if this type of cloning technology existed: It'll immediately get misused, people will fear it, it'll get outlawed.

The #Severance cinematography, direction, and editing is so good that I think I could just watch an hour of Cobel driving around Canadian fishing villages and find it compelling.

Also, 207 was one of the finest episodes of television of all time, so naturally it would be a tough act to follow

The visuals were both grimy and gorgeous, and it finally expanded the world beyond Kier. We get a much deeper understanding of Cobel's backstory and also Lumon's impact on the world. We got a wonderfully unhinged Arquette performance. Yes, I agree that it was on the slow side but I still dug it.

I see where you're coming from but I gotta disagree, man!

Don't assume maximalist outcomes for the Trump administration. That's a form of psychological surrender. We should attempt to exploit every stumble, failure, and misstep, and there will be stumbles, failures, and missteps.

I keep trying to write something smart and insightful, but fuck it, I’m sad and angry. I’m just gonna turn my phone off, pour a glass of whiskey, and watch numbers go up in Dragon Age. Hug those close to you, and rest up for the next fight.
