@eff.org On X you posted that you were leaving the platform, but there was no explanation of why. Have you posted an explanation elsewhere? I could not find one on your website.

Anna Rettberg made the art for both :)

Making Sense of the Hype Using the Anthropic C compiler post as an example, Demetri proposes a two-axis approach for assessing claims about AI.

Wading Through AI episode 2 is now up! In it, @DemetriSpanos and I discuss the recent Anthropic announcement about building a C compiler with "parallel Claudes", and how to properly assess AI announcements in general.

Should You Be A Carpenter? Is entering the "knowledge economy" today too risky given the field's increasing focus on AI?

I'm doing a new discussion series with Demetri Spanos on emerging AI topics. Ironically, the series art was made by hand by Anna Rettberg without generative AI :)

First episode is available now: www.computerenhance.com/p/should-you...

If you are talking about the rectangle eventually inheriting its way to becoming a browser, that picture is from his article in Scientific American. Bret Victor hosts a public scan of it if you'd like to read the whole thing: worrydream.com/refs/Kay_198...

I'm also not sure what to make of the original statement in the article. 0.06% is actually huge: companies are sinking tens and hundreds of billions of dollars into AI. 0.06% of just $1bln is $600,000. What am I missing?

The founder of both Twitter and this site, and the new owner of Twitter (X), have decided artists do not deserve the same right to make a living as people who make physical goods.

Join the Voidstar Discord Server! The official server for Voidstar, a company crafting impactful software. File Pilot, a fast and modern file explorer. | 2905 members

You might want to report the crashes in the discord ( discord.com/invite/PjH9z...). I have never had FilePilot crash, so, it's possible you have hit some things that aren't as common, and they might not know about it.

File Pilot - Next-gen file explorer File Pilot is a file explorer built from scratch for light-speed performance, with a modern and robust interface.

I have completely replaced File Explorer with FilePilot in daily use. That's probably the fastest I've ever permanently switched a bread-and-butter tool like this. FilePilot beta is more polished than most people's finished products :)

An Interview with Zen Chief Architect Mike Clark Zen is one of the most important microarchitectures in the history of the x86 ecosystem.

I recently had the honor of interviewing Zen’s chief architect Mike Clark! I tried to fit in as many microarchitecture questions as I could, including x64 vs ARM ISA power efficiency, 4k vs larger page sizes, 64-byte cache lines, scatter/gather and more:

Anyway, that's all the Meow comments I can think of. I will post more when the Kickstarter is live. Until then, thanks everyone for reading!

It was heartwarming to have so many people seek out our booth at comic conventions and ask when Book 3 will be available. We even twice had people come dressed as characters from the series, which was the wildest thing I think I've ever experienced!

For an indie comic with no marketing, we have been really happy with how well Meow the Infinite has been received. We are now well into the thousands of books sold, and are actually a bit worried that our Book 3 Kickstarter will be artificially limited by our stock of Book 2!

Illustration-wise, there are a few dozen pages left to draw. We anticipate these will be finished around June, which is when the Kickstarter will go live.

Because Meow the Infinite is an intricate story where every scene needed to be carefully planned in advance, the bulk of the writing has been complete for years. A few final scenes that we wanted to iterate on were completed last year.

Coming soon: Meow the Infinite: Book Three An epic all-ages graphic novel series about a starfaring princess and her fearless feline companion.

At ~350 pages, Book 3 is by far the largest book in the series. As with the previous books, there's a Kickstarter for the print run where you can order the book (and the two prior volumes, if you don't already have them). You can sign up for it here: www.kickstarter.com/projects/ann...

🧵This past weekend I tabled at @emeraldcitycon.bsky.social, and there were a lot of people asking for Meow the Infinite: Book 3. I haven't posted much about it, so here is some information for everyone waiting for the final book!

I will try to post major announcements here, but generally speaking I don't actively use Blue Sky.

I don't think the scaling is inherently a problem, because most IDE parts are decouplable. The problem is that the CS methods that are taught don't scale, and the ones that do scale are eschewed. It's a problem of our own creation.

They contribute only in the sense that the bigger the program is, the more chances you have to make a mistake in how it's designed. It is not an intrinsic property of complexity.

This is all completely false. The Visual Studio IDE was plenty fast in version 6 and earlier. That version supported all of the things you're talking about (multiple languages, SCC, variable formatting, remote debugging, etc.) Modern IDEs are slow because of bad programming, period.

If your goal was to convince me that this platform was different because it wasn't about people randomly spouting their ideologically-warped takes all the time - such as in replies to threads that have nothing to do with politics - it went poorly.

I think the popularity has been overstated, yes.

It is brand new - 2025 will be its first year in existence.

I will forward that to the organizers.

I do one speaking engagement every year. For 2025, I will be traveling to Sweden for the inaugural Better Software Conference. This is the first time I'll be speaking in Europe, and I look forward to saying hello to folks whom I've so far only ever met on-line.
