The point at which the Internet started enshittifying, was when all websites started suppressing the underline on hyperlinked text by default, using low-contrast differently colored text instead.

I further assert that this was done to discourage people from clicking away to different sites.

Stephen Fry narrated the entire Sherlock Holmes collection (not exactly a series, they're all consumable individually), though perhaps that isn't quite as far into fantasy as you're looking for.

Heh it's been far too long for me anyway. Math used to be my best skill by far (I was in competitions for that), but I think I've forgotten more about advanced calculus than I originally learned.

I managed to dodge AIDS as friends of mine started dying. I got through the queerphobic W years and went through bankruptcy because of their plundering.

I've done 24/7 high cortisol levels. I can't do that all the time anymore.

You think seeing self-defeating queer folks like this, who are younger than my entire time in queer activism, would be dispiriting.

But no, we had head-up-own-ass queers in the early 90s too. I'm used to it at this point 😁 (Insert something about forgetting history and repeating it here.)

Unnecessary infant surgery is barbaric and evil.

(I'm stuck with half working dick nerves because of overeager "circumcision". Might as well have cut the tip totally off.)

You're right and you should say it.

Feeds are basically where a program can use your account's follows, likes, and such — or search keywords, or other criteria as well — and present a list of posts fitting those criteria.

It's delivered via programming APIs and anybody can publish them with the right tools or programming experience

Subscribe to the OnlyPosts feed link here. Because it's a dynamic feed, it won't scroll back forever, but I think it will let you go back as far as about 7 days showing only original and quote posts, no reposts. It can lag a few minutes behind real time.

The 1980s were a different kind of counterculture era. We figured out how to keep going in spite of ourselves.

Ah.

so.

i see.

moments where I wish I had the ability to hold all my friends as tightly as possible, no matter where they are.

Try, really try, to remember that love still exists.

And reach out to those that you hold dear.🫂

This is one of those days that we need a little funk beat in our lives.

Yep, I remember. I also was enlisted to run those in most classes.

And sometimes to help the teacher run the mimeo copy machine with that purple ink that just begs to be sniffed...

Flashbacks to being the one always picked by the teacher to advance the filmstrip slides at the beeps, because the school didn't have a unit with the 60Hz tone automatic frame advance capability.

It seems to happen more often when I'm replying to a big account, so maybe they aren't all using the firehose as a source, but yeah it's a lot.

Had a "how did I miss that?" realization late last night, that I wrote about having gender dysphoric triggers *as a mostly-cis man* (at the time), and it's becoming clear why I feel so welcomed by gender diverse people.

Trans folks are fucking awesome and you should have more of them in your life.

And a lot more people are using alt text here, possibly because the UI nags about it.

By default there is no algorithm, but you can plug in algorithm feeds that you can switch between at your own option. Their own Discover feed is added automatically to new accounts, I think, and it's not bad.

I think I figured out the phantom reposts. There are scam artists using their own PDS (AT Protocol data server), and they're reposting random things from the firehose to try to get attention, even if the poster is blocking them already. ATProto is allowing the repost action, but it shows up nowhere.

I'm disturbed, but I'm not *surprised.* Saw this under GWB. Saw this under Reagan (though I wasn't old enough to understand it fully at the time).

Boot licking is not just a kink for these folks; it's a 24/7 lifestyle.
