Between that and learning that 343/Halo Studios sounds like a nightmare to work for…

Enjoying things - is it legal?

Something about the 2010s internet and gamer chuds being the loudest voices seems to have fed back in on itself and rotted a lot of peoples brains lol

Better to know now than later lol

One of those factoids that you hear and forget years ago because you weren’t into halo then

Bleh

_Sigh_

That just makes me sad

Oh fuck me I forgot that

I never really played much Halo growing up, only really getting into it now

But Jesus Christ it’s a talent to make a soundtrack so… Reified like Marty and his team did — it’s unmistakable even if you’ve only heard it once

Waiting for the Dr Stone episode where he wakes up a trans girl and immediately realises he needs to figure out how to synthesize estrogen for her

(And does it obviously)

I ain’t using power shell for free anymore :p

But an admin account, Tailscale and some kind of VNC or RDP server running in the background might make at least part of the current system less awful. Although knowing they’d never update Tailscale is a worry…

You’ve given me an idea, for better or worse :p

Thanks 💙

I agree, although 60% of the time it’s like “outlook is asking me to log in but won’t go away when I log in”

Fixable with VNC (and probably Tailscale I guess) but something about it still makes me nervous

Not that they’d willingly move OS at this point even from winSlop:/

If I’m spending AU$2K+ on a machine, I don’t really want compromises or jank, and I’m not bothered enough by Apple vertical integration to avoid it anymore

I’m into Linux, don’t get me wrong, but I’m tired lmao, and Mac’s are just less work.

1 week ago 2 0 0 0

Yeah I think that might be the main diverging point for me - I’ve always had _something_ be a compromise with Linux, like no drivers for my fingerprint sensor or no independent monitor resolution scaling (at least on Ubuntu/mint when I tried it last)

I’m with everyone else on the thread, with the one caveat that: I’m my parents primary technical support, but I’m 400km away. They don’t google shit first, and I wouldn’t want to give tech support for Linux over the phone or Zoom.

But like it’s otherwise probably fine for most people

Mmmm I guess

Of all the laptops I’ve had since Windows 11 came out, only my MacBook has reliably retained charge when I shut the lid for a few days.

I think the XPS did it okay on win10 but that’s a while ago now. Win 11 and Linux don’t for the time I’ve cared to put into it

I mean I’ve done it, don’t get me wrong, but I do a lotta that shit in the couch these days. Laptop is a hard to beat form factor.

Framework maybe, but then you’re looking at MacBook Air money and that’s just a hard sell now for me

And yeah it’s a Debian problem but it took me hours to figure out how to install fucking Neovim 10, because the version on aptitude is ancient at this point, and 3 newer methods got abandoned too.

That kinda shit is so draining for me - on macOS it’s just “brew install neovim”

This is a laptop I pick up every few days to like… update docker containers or do some file management. Maybe order groceries or buy tickets.

Spending hours to figure out why some stupid hardware thing needs configuring different to be normal just isn’t for me anymore - not for this.

1 week ago 2 0 1 0

Idk what normal tasks for you are lol, that might be the key point.

But like, comparatively. I ran Ubuntu on a 2020 XPS15 for a couple of years. I think I lost a whole weekend trying to get it to hibernate when the lid shut or something and it still didn’t work.

Maybe I’m the weird one, but I would feel weird doing transactions or budgets or taxes or writing on a steam deck lmao, that sounds like pure hell

1 week ago 0 0 1 0

Fam, I spend my paid time babying dumb computers into keeping working goodly, I don’t wanna spend my free time fighting my laptop into doing the normal shit it should out of the box.

I used to do that, I’m tired of it. I just want a computer that will do what I ask. Like sleep when the lid shuts
