A graph titled "Cost of Transport" showing the relationship between body weight (in kilograms) and energy consumption for distance traveled (calories per gram per kilometer) for various animals and machines. It highlights that a person on a bicycle ranks first in efficiency.

A graph titled "Cost of Transport" showing the relationship between body weight (in kilograms) and energy consumption for distance traveled (calories per gram per kilometer) for various animals and machines. It highlights that a person on a bicycle ranks first in efficiency.

A person on a bicycle is by far the most energy-efficient among animals and machines per distance traveled relative to body weight. The bicycle is magic.

Letter: The Inflation Reduction Act is a climate policy that delivers for all of us Letter: The Inflation Reduction Act is a climate policy that delivers for all of us

“On the hottest day of the year, our air conditioner failed. With the IRA and other incentives, we received a 25% cost reduction — about $6,300. Our air conditioning bill is now halved. My persistent cough, likely aggravated by burning gas in the home, has improved.” www.sltrib.com/opinion/lett...

Line graph time series showing daily Arctic sea ice extent in the Canadian Arctic for 2024 compared to each year from 1979 to 2023. There is a large seasonal cycle on this graph and a long-term decreasing trend for days during the melt season from May to November. 2024 is the lowest on record for this time of year.

Associated with the anomalous warmth, this year observed the latest freeze-up in the satellite-era record across the Canadian #Arctic Archipelago.

If you learn anything today, it should be this:

We're burning more fossil fuels and releasing more fossil fuel CO₂ than ever. Despite what people had hoped, anthropogenic CO₂ emissions have not peaked.

To stay below +1.5°C of global warming, we're supposed to cut emissions by 50% by 2030. 🥲

Thanks for sharing - this is really interesting! By local, I meant projects in your community that you’ve gotten to see under the hood. Really curious to learn more about projects like this that pay on savings. Scaling will be limited until occupants don’t carry the risk for energy improvements.

I’ve seen a few examples of mandatory energy ratings for units. I like this because it gives the tenants more information, and an incentive for landlords. Our city council in Lancaster, Pa seems receptive, but I’d love to learn from other places that have implemented.
