With this in mind, I will say that it is strange that Abraxas Academy (Morgantown, PA) *is* in the recent ICE book ins dataset, though. Maybe its contract with DHS is different than the youth shelters?

I know who my guess is for person who lives in Miami, went to the last Iran talks, and appears to be going to them again, how about you?
Anat Rubin and I co-wrote a story for @calmatters.org about the people behind Sheriff Chad Bianco's "election investigation" -- sovereign citizens, Christian nationalists, and "constitutional sheriffs."

I saw Bethany Christian Services in previous FOIA productions of book ins data when I worked at TRAC, so it's not like youth shelters have always been excluded.
Teens detained alone sent to Michigan It’s not clear what happened to the five teen boys who, as of March 10, remained in federal custody with no publicly listed location. But they may have wound up in Christian youth shelters in Michigan, as did two other teen boys whose lawyers spoke with Sahan Journal. The two Christian social services organizations — Bethany Christian Services and Samaritas — declined to answer questions about how many Minnesota children detained in the surge were still in their care.
Important observation from @bzosiad.bsky.social and @cynthiatu.bsky.social for folks working with ICE data.
At least some youth shelters seem to be excluded from the recent FOIA production and so would not be found in the case records despite being in ICE custody.

So, my immigration folks may not know this, but there’s this MASSIVE annual fundraiser in which people donate to New American Pathways — a refugee-resettlement org turned immigrant-serving org — for the greater glory of college sports (or, if you prefer, Protect Trans Kids University).
70 Minnesota children.
Delta Air Lines, who likely flew nearly all of these kiddos out of MSP, could publicly condemn this and end the practice tomorrow, as the airlines did in 2018 with family separation, but it’s easier to stay silent.
On the note of an unspeaking protagonist, I'm feeling very nervous about the Legend of Zelda adaptation.
It's 1am here and this game could go to OT 😭
Tim Hardaway Jr is here to make winning plays.
God I hope so
Lol totally running up the sleep debt here tooooo
Nuggets fans have bitter memories of McCollum, too. From his time in Portland.
This Wolves-Nuggets game is going to start at 11pm ET. On a school night.
A bit rough for the sleep schedule, though.
good, but public power + electrified mass transit even better

It's truly the best time of the year, sportswise. Even when the results don't go in my teams' favor, just so many good games going on.
The Columbine massacre was on this date in 1999. Instead of energizing our country to get gun violence under control, it kicked off a new normal. One of the best explanations ever of journalism's destructive impact on mass shootings came from Roger Ebert in his review of Gus Van Sant’s “Elephant.”
I'm excited to share that we've made a collection of historic Supreme Court Records and Briefs available via
@archive.org
I've written a blog post where I go into detail about the importance of this collection.

Three cabinet secretaries gone, all women. It's too on the nose to even point out but I'll be updating this chart, today!

“By stripping the right to asylum, nations are creating a growing underclass of placeless, rightless people to police in perpetuity, and an ever-greater policing apparatus with which to crack down on them—and, increasingly, everyone else.”
Absolutely essential reading on global borders and asylum.
For @jewishcurrents.bsky.social I wrote about the decimation of the right to asylum. I went into the history of asylum, how it was formalized post the World Wars, how it was never properly implemented, and how its destruction paves the path for authoritarianism.

ICYMI: We have redesigned the main page of DetentionReports.com.
The fact that every major police union endorsed Donald Trump is under appreciated in our political discourse.
This is right where I am as well.
As @jwashing.bsky.social recently told @austinkocher.com: the term we typically use to describe this sort of thing—"medical neglect"—is a misnomer. This is not medical neglect; this is medical torture.
"We are focused on identifying partners to assist in the future as needs of the justice space continue to evolve." - CoreCivic
This is ominous in retrospect.
The facility is owned by CoreCivic, but the CA Department of Corrections leased it until 2024. I watched this video to get a sense of the local tv coverage when the state ended its contract with CoreCivic. www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIAw...
A lot of previously closed state corrections buildings have been converted into ICE facilities, but mostly in states governed by Republicans. California City presents a different situation.
