Now, honestly, some of it is alright, and yeah, isn't wrong in the sense that communities do not build from scheduling 1-to-1 catch-ups every couple of months.

But some of it was clearly not written by people who ever tried scheduling fortnightly DnD sessions with a group of four or more players.

Dunno what it says about me, but recently my instagram feed has featured posts talking about how scheduled meet-ups every month or two with friends isn't optimal for maintaining proper friendships, and instead recommends smaller "rituals" to do every week or so with those friends.

Martin's politicial instincts are dimming, he has no real vision to offer anyone not satisfied with his version of centrism, and he has no willingness to pivot to policies that might actually work.

The only tick in his favour is that there is no-one in FF who would be able to do much better.

That's the same for literally every party leader in this country, so I'm not sure how that is supposed to be a particular leaf in Martin's cap.

To be honest, I would be personally fine if Martin and FF were arrogant enough to go for another round in 2029, the script would write itself.

‘I wished for death’: Sexual violence in Israel’s prisons is an ‘organised state policy’
Palestinian testimonies reveal how sexual violence, including rape using objects and dogs, is approved by 'highest levels' of Israeli leadership

‘I wished for death’: Sexual violence in Israel’s prisons is an ‘organised state policy’ Palestinian testimonies reveal how sexual violence, including rape using objects and dogs, is approved by 'highest levels' of Israeli leadership

The testimony here about sexual violence by Israel against Palestinian prisoners is so beyond the pale everyone must see it.

It is so bad I can’t in good conscience share a quote other than the headline, which somehow manages to understate the horror within.

How Ireland's far-right movement got involved in the fuel protests and tried to hijack them While many are protesting fuel costs, far-right actors and international figures are using the movement to push anti-immigrant narratives.

a good, readable timeline of far right involvement in the fuel protests from Stephen McDermott here

So, nothing for anyone outside those sectors who are still paying the full prices at the pumo for their cars, or for home heating oil?

With backdoor deals leaking now I hope rural folk who are getting nothing to help heat their homes or keep their cars running for example, realise this movement's leaders are a mainly bunch of mé féiners who care only for themselves. I also hope the left do much better for rural people going forward

Kind of wish reporters would stop letting the protest leaders get away with saying shit like "it's not us blocking the roads, it's the government blocking the roads"

We're not idiots

Fuel protests: Representative groups told new supports ready but will not be announced until blockade lifted Ireland faces having to ‘turn oil away’ amid ongoing disruption, Taoiseach warns

Genuinely though, what sort of logic are they operating on?

I have to give it to the Irish Government's handling of the fuel protests - they have done a great job absolutely infuriating the country by not actually doing anything.

No follow-through on threats, no follow-through on claims of dialogue with protesters, & now somehow expecting this to fool folk;

false identification of DF armoured vehicles in training for deployment to Lebanon made it all the way to the EU Parliament today thanks to former journalist Ciaran Mulloolly who has evidently left any sense of responsibility to the truth in his past

Just worth saying, for absolutely legal clarity: the government does not have the legal prerogative to abolish carbon tax in its entirety. Carbon tax is a form of excise, and EU directives require excise on diesel to be a minimum of 33c per litre. (1/2)

Without saying how old you are, say something that shows your age:

When I was born, Divorce had not been signed into law just yet in Ireland.

When unions and left groups organised cost of living marches, farmers and small buisness owners were nowhere to be seen. They wouldn't be capable of considering solidarity for a fleeting second. Ireland is there for them and them only. Everyone elses role is to work their poverty wages.

If climate protesters had blocked roads for as long as the fuel protesters did, there would be people on the radio demanding the army be called in to shoot them all

An X post from Nick Delehanty, when he was stuck in traffic due to a protest blocking the Port Tunnel in October 2025

Over 1 hour later.
M1 is still bumper to bumper.

The people most impacted by this protest workers & families.

Whoever organised this protest need to be punished. They have shut down national infrastructure. This must be taken extremely seriously.

They could target the airport next.

An X post dated 20th March 2026, from an account called Employment Law Ireland. It reads

The hauliers need to bring this country to a standstill. It is the only language this arrogant, out of control government will understand. There is no accountability, and the opposition is utterly useless. The weakest and most pathetic opposition in the history of the State.

to which Nick Delehanty has replied

We will be out in force

Don't taco Tuesday this shit. Millions of people spent the day wondering if they would get vaporized, and no one in our government stood up to him. Nothing cutesy about it.
