Well, the good news is, for dogs I work pro bone-o.

A black Greyhound with a purple collar rests atop a giant dog bed piled with fluffy blankets. She has her head tucked behind Spouse's slippered foot in protest of this heinous treatment
Footage smuggled out from her confinement reveals heinous conditions in which no one is petting her

Seeing a lot of hostility towards indie journalists who'd long heard rumors of Salwell's abuses but didn't report on them, & I'm sorry, but that's not how journalism works. This isn't sitting on a story for a book. You can't report w/o sources. You can't out victims who aren't ready to go on record.
Welcome home, Artemis II crew!
Good to see y'all safely out of Integrity
(Wait that sounds wrong; I'm sure you still have plenty of integrity)
Can confirm— I used to have a wheat allergy. I could still eat rye but not wheat. I did find the GF community very helpful and appreciated how freely they shared knowledge, recipes, etc. But there were many things I could eat that were not remotely gluten free; celiacs is a whole different thing
Games like darts, billiards, bowling and chess completely give away what's going on.
The ONLY reason to segregate these sports by sex in the first place is because men cannot emotionally handle losing to women.
The ONLY reason to lock out trans people is bigotry.
me: wtf there's no killer whale emoji
me: they have two different whale emoji 🐋🐳 but no orca
K: well just give the normal whale emoji a weapon
me: 🔫🐋
K: see?
Anyway this is not a heroic tale
Because like, imagine for a moment that I was right about this dude
"oh so you're trying to do a white savior redemption arc, here's why it's not working" is not a response that covers me in glory? "Here's why you should not do that" would have been the move.
yup you sure did
I mean--it was very funny in retrospect but I would argue that it was not heroic.
I was not trying to stand up for anyone. And in fact what I thought he was doing was some kind of dances with wolves thing and I did not have the courage to tell him white savior narratives were bad
Yeah the thing was this character was actually Too Far for public opining in the time period in question, which is where I was trying to point him to primary sources
I fully didn't realize until like the NEXT DAY or something that no the dude was not writing a poorly-done redemption arc
He was writing a western about a Heroic White Dude doing genocide on purpose
The racism was the fuckin' point
instructor "okay but leaving aside the racism--"
Me: "I don't think we can? It's overpowering everything else; this is the first introduction readers have to the world of the story and right now it's impossible to find anything to like about this character because he's so incredibly racist--"
The workshop instructor tried to get me to notice that I was assuming facts not in evidence (ie that this dude believed that racism was bad and that he was trying to portray the character in a negative light), and when that failed, tried to redirect me
it did not work
I was too oblivious
--and eventually I notice that the gentleman is turning very red, and he sputters, "his attitudes are appropriate for the period--"
but I, naive soul me, am sure this is just a failure of research and proceed to explain to the good sir that he's mistaken and recommend primary sources
< but characters with redemption arcs have to be redeemable and this character's racism is just absolutely beyond and that he should pull it back because a little goes a long way--
Thread. Reminds me of the time I was unintentionally but unapologetically obnoxious at a writing workshop where my feedback to one person was that his protag was way too over-the-top racist, and of course I get that this is just the first three chapters and he's setting up a redemption arc >
The 28th Virginia battle flag is a Confederate battle flag that belonged to the 28th Virginia Infantry Regiment. Captured by the 1st Minnesota Infantry Regiment at the Battle of Gettysburg, the flag was brought to Minnesota and exhibited at the state's capitol for several years before passing into the permanent collection of the Minnesota Historical Society after 1896 where it has remained since.
Happy Confederate Surrender Day from Minnesota where we still have your goddamn flag and we’re not giving it up.

Mexico’s overwintering monarch population grew 64% this winter, with butterflies covering their largest area of forest since 2018. The recovery remains fragile, but suggests there’s been a positive impact from conservation efforts in the butterflies’ core habitat. buff.ly/XoPKQ9d

(I'm all caught up now and I'd say "I have questions" but I don't actually want answers; I wish to know less)
A bright spot in the news. Firmly believe that right-to-repair suits like these are an irreplaceable part of progressive environmental policy worldwide
My doomscroll avoidance strategies (reading books and playing and making games) has been working out pretty well for me but it does mean I sometimes sign on and then have a disorienting few minutes of trying to figure out if everyone joking about the antipope is whimsy bsky or end times bsky
I know today is A LOT, so friendly reminder.
Also white men can just straightup say it's a self insert and no one has a problem
They don't care about self inserts; they care about the wrong people daring to presume to be main characters instead of objects
Fun fact: space travel has led to many advancements in healthcare on Earth.
More space exploration, more healthcare, fewer racist wars.
If game devs could just put in the puzzles I find good and leave out the things I hate, then the games would be good
I'm not a monster; they can create other games for wrong people with only the things I hate
They simply should not mix them
NASA isn't why the US doesn't have universal healthcare, or a social safety net. The US doesn't have those things because politicians with the power to provide them choose specifically not to (with varying levels of support from voters). Enthusiasm for human spaceflight doesn't drive that choice.
If you can't handle me at my worst (yelling at a frustrating timing sequence in a puzzle platformer) then you—
... Actually no sorry you totally still do deserve me at my best; yelling at video games is a bad habit and I'm working on it
