Modern bats navigate the night with echolocation, but early bats may have taken to the skies before they ever evolved that ability.
Happy Bat Appreciation Day!

What were we like in the 90s?
About what you’d expect for our crew. 😂
Not many people get the chance to have their name on a real fossil.
Sponsor a fossil jacket and be part of the discoveries happening in the field this season.

Very good choice! We tend to lean towards Jurassic dinosaurs too. 🦖
That's such a classic! Books like that got so many of us hooked early. Do you still have a favorite dinosaur?
What first got you interested in fossils or prehistoric life?
Great news! 🎉
We are so excited to announce that Adam Johnson will be returning
to the field with us this summer as a Field Technician! Since his internship with us last summer, he has been accepted into a grad program at ODU, where he will study the very fossils that we are digging up each season!
We may not know EXACTLY how dinosaurs behaved, but their anatomy has given us some pretty good hints.
Which means we can technically ask: would any of them make good pets?
(The answer is still no.)

Happy Fossil Friday from Elevation Science and the Montana Natural History Center!

You can put your name on a real fossil.
Sponsor a fossil jacket and be part of the discoveries happening in the field this season.
Every sponsorship helps protect fossils as they’re uncovered and transported to the lab.

We're sorry, beavers were HOW BIG???
Happy International Beaver Day! 🦫
Jane Goodall showed the world the power of field-based science.
That same spirit of curiosity and observation continues today, whether studying living animals and ecosystems or ancient ones.
Today, we celebrate Jane Goodall and her inspirational legacy.
Hard to beat that one 😂
Always fun to see which dinosaurs really stick with people!
What’s a fossil or prehistoric animal you think deserves more attention?
You can be part of real fossil discovery.
Sponsor a fossil jacket and have your name written on a jacket in the field while we uncover fossils this season!
Every sponsorship helps support the tools and materials needed to do this work.

Right there with you. Very worried about this and our field season this year.
Absolutely incredible

Who gets to do science?
For a long time, that answer was quite limited. Today, more people are stepping into the field and gaining real, hands-on experience in paleontology.

We're off to a great start to our 2026 field season fundraiser!
Thank you to everyone who has already sponsored a fossil jacket; your support is helping protect real dinosaur discoveries in the field.
Let's keep the momentum going and reach our goal: givebutter.com/2026-fossil-...
That's awesome! Your background would definitely come in handy.
No need for any prior experience, though any experience is welcome. All participants work alongside our staff in the quarries. You can check out the details here:

Happy to answer questions too!
From the field to the lab. 🦴
Joshua worked on this sauropod toe during our field course and recently got to see it again in the lab.
Talk about a full-circle moment!
We hope you can join us someday! We've got tons of participants with little to no prior experience in digging! 🦕
Register today for MNHC’s FIELD NOTES #writingworkshop. This virtual 6-part class includes publication and airing of your piece on @mtpublicradio.bsky.social!
Open to everyone — you don’t have to live in MT to participate & enjoy this course! Starts 3.24! www.montananaturalist.org/event/online...
First day of spring, and we're already daydreaming about being back in the field.
We're counting down the final spots for our 2026 field season!
Only 9 spots remain to join us at our active dinosaur dig sites.
Sign up before they're gone: elevationscience.org/fossil-dig-e...
