Nice! When it tried to compile EXTLINUX, was there any errors or any logs available?
A screenshot of SHORK 486 running tmux. A split screen is demonstrated, with a terminal prompt on the left, and GNU nano open the right.
I also just got tmux running on SHORK 486 Linux as I was about to head to bed! It should be committed tomorrow, pending some tidying up and optimisation! I've been trying to get this working properly for a hot minute, and thus am very chuffed that it is working now! ๐

SHORK 486 Linux now includes htop! ๐ฆ
And here is SHORK 486 Linux with kernel 7.0.0 on real hardware!
It is done, SHORK 486 Linux is now available with kernel 7.0.0! github.com/SharktasticA...

Indeed! Eventually, I think I will try forking 7.0 and see learn if/how I can 'backport' newer features to it.
Thank you!

I'd love to know know what SHORKGUI's performance is like for you, and if there are any particular slowdowns? At the end of the day, old hardware is old hardware, but if there is anything I can try optimising, I'll give it a go!
Splendid! I will look into adding alternative FBs, and when I revamp shorkres, provide an easy way to switch between then.

I'm testing SHORK 486 Linux with kernel 7.0rc7! It kinda *just worked*, and naturally, I immediately threw it into the fire with 16MHz 486SX and just 7MB RAM... I'm amused at the prospect of this distro for a 1989 CPU having a newer kernel than most of the people reading this! ๐
Something like "video=tridentfb".
In the meantime, you can try switching to the Trident-specific FB. I *believe* you just need to modify "configs/linux.config.fb.frag" to either replace CONFIG_FB_VESA with CONFIG_FB_TRIDENT or add CONFIG_FB_TRIDENT=y, then pass some boot argument to specifically use it. Not tried it myself though.
Hmm. My apologies, I'll make a note of this to experiment soon! I'm still learning about framebuffer devs and kernel options for them. There is a lot of work I can do for the GUI. v86d and uvesafb are on my list that may help. shorkres will soon be menu-based and offer more resolutions.
Nice! Was there error from trying to launch the GUI, or just a generic "no framebuffer" thing? Did you change resolution with shorkres beforehand?

SHORK 486 Linux now inclues shorksay, my shark-themed homage to cowsay! You can also compile it for modern Linux too: github.com/SharktasticA...

cowsay you say? How about shorksay? Coming soon to SHORK 486!
SHORK 486 Linux now has a spin on sl (steam locomotive) - shorklocomotive! Can also compile it yourself for modern Linux. Perhaps basic right now, I have more plans for it: custom colours, different shark species, and some sort of shark train for proper homage to the OG! github.com/SharktasticA...

SHORK 486's Build Configurator is now live! github.com/SharktasticA...
I LOVE HIM, thank you! And yes, SHORK is still very young and has a lot ahead of it.
SHORK is a lil guy from Hawaii who wears a black, blue, and ash lavender dry suit under a tactical jacket with coattails of the same color palette with a mechanical shark tail that attaches to his suit externally with a few sensors disguised as whiskers that attach at the base. He's loosely based on a Tiger Shark with inspiration from boats as well lmao. He'd typically be outfitted with scuba gear but I am not drawing all that lol A little guy who works directly under Colossus as an oceanographer. Callsign lilJaws.
Made @sharktastica.co.uk 's SHORK a lil guy :)
(but as an early teen because hims just a baby)

I made a dialog-based configurator for SHORK 486 Linux that makes it easier to tailor it to your needs. Don't need to look up and remember build script parameters and arguments! I just need to thoroughly test it and modify the README before I push it live. Probably tomorrow.
