@garyseconomics.bsky.social Thankyou for shining a light on the policies that are maintaining poverty and poor living standards amongst the working and middle classes and against the most vulnerable in our society. This is not OK. Change is needed! #SocialJustice #BluSkyEPs @shocktigan.bsky.social

This was a really thought provoking piece from Ruth - though I am still uncertain where I sit with the term 'social prescribing' - I fear that to some extent, it medicalises community, the natural world, connection, volunteering, music, the arts etc.

Great to your thoughts too colleagues :)

I have subscribed for years Sean, your work is so valuable. The impact of poverty on children and families has been devastating and it’s getting worse.

Blackburn with Darwen’s EP Team are planning to deliver training to all our special schools from September. Have any of my fellow EPs developed ELSA training for special schools? If so, could we please connect? 🤓🌞

Surely British people cannot tolerate these policies anymore! Our families and children have been living in abject poverty for 15 years +. Poverty = need, its a simple as that #edpsychs

front cover of 'How the West Indian Child is Made Educationally Sub-normal in the British School System' by Bernard Coard

front cover of 'How the West Indian Child is Made Educationally Sub-normal in the British School System' by Bernard Coard

in 1971, Bernard Coard's book exposed how 'Schools for the Educationally Subnormal' framed Black children as allegedly linguistically and intellectually deficient, and incapable of participating in mainstream education. its continued relevance means it should be compulsory reading for all teachers.

#edpsychs As part of our research on the DEdPsy course at UEL, colleagues and I are seeking participants for our research into EPs’ values and their impact on use of assessment tools. EPs working in the UK are eligible to take part and we would be so grateful! forms.office.com/e/kbDBmm9nWc

Take some time for rest and recovery. It can be a long and perilous journey towards the doctorate, I was successful my 3rd year applying, some in my cohort were 4/5 years. Good luck to you, Kate!
