What Starmer is saying here is that neither he nor any minister asked what the outcome of the vetting process was … which is incompetence verging on dereliction of duty in public office … for which he should resign.

Any prime minister who follows this new creepy way of governing where they deliberately don’t ask for crucial reports so they can swerve accountability (Johnson did this with the Russia reports) should be treated as if they did know and have lied to the public and parliament. It’s just semantics.

Less than 2 years ago Keir Starmer looked us in the eye and promised if we voted for him he would end the chaos and deception in government we’d suffered for years and he’s lying to us (or completely incompetent).

I don't believe Starmer in this case - it's just implausible that Robbins knew Mandelson had failed vetting and chose not to tell them. If it plays out that he was lying to us and to parliament then that makes him no better than Boris Johnson ... and less than 2 years after his election.
Sorry ... I don't believe that this top civil servant didn't tell Keir Starmer and ministers that Mandelson failed the security vetting process ... I think they got the recommendation and deliberately ignored it.
If they didn't then that shows that their No. 10 operation is not fit for purpose.
This is such brilliant news. Well done Labour on this (it's rare to find anything to congratulate them for at the moment) ... one of my kids is about to start a languages degree and this is very very timely for us indeed.
It's not just that Labour lurching so far to the right conflicts so much with my own values ... it's the sheer electoral idiocy of chasing Reform votes (they are NEVER going to vote for Labour) while haemorrhaging traditional left wing Labour supporters to the Greens that gets me. It was obvious.
