People are dunking on this guy but we really need to support and encourage people who make the decision to step away from AI. Like this is the goal!! For folk to realize and stop using it, even if they were to begin with!! This is a good thing!!

this morning, mamdani’s team got in touch with me to float a new tax proposal: if your net worth exceeds $5 million and you dress badly, you’ll be hit with a 10% annual levy for “visual pollution.” i would be in charge of deciding if the outfits are bad.

if you want to check out academic papers, i also recommend the ‘epenthetic vowels in Japanese’ paper by dupoux and ‘time and thyme’ by gahl, you can find em both on google scholar! i think you’ll have a lot of fun with perceptual learning, i love how it shows what patterns the brain attunes to

if any of that is interesting lmk bc i love talking about this stuff but when it's niche it can be hard to navigate! it feels less concrete when it's not couched in neuroscience but it v much shaped my practice and like, thinking of acquiring information as matching another person's understanding.

it may not be the kind of learning you're thinking, but i carry those ideas very generally - there's a framework called 'probably approximately correct' which is a silly name but is all about, how much info do you need to approximate a representation of something bc it'll never 100% match

create exemplars of that concept to draw from. one book i do actually like is 'the price of linguistic productivity' which looks at how language gets organized and how Much language you need to establish patterns, based on when something is incorporated into this exemplar, how many times you see it.

mentally differently when they know they'll have an outside source to find that info again, like google or wikipedia or even a GPS system for directions, which means we don't recall the details but we know where to find it. that turned into a representation-based approach to learning, where learners

an article on 'frictionmaxxing' from the Cut, on how embedding more mild inconveniences in life makes you more resilient but also more flexible. we're in an interesting time of looking at relationships between tech and learning for exactly this reason - there's an study on how people organize info

random but you and i met at a picnic with lira one time, and my dissertation work actually dealt with perception of sound works in language learning and constructing representations of language so i have a lot of thoughts on this. i don't have a lot of Books but i've been pointing a lot of people to

chelsea manning looking fly as hell in a nice suit being perp walked by a dipshit party city looking nypd cop named "anger"

yesterday in NYC, jewish voice for peace organized a protest against arms sale to israel. 90 people got detained after a traffic sit in held right in front of chuck schumer's office.

as usual, chelsea manning has the coolest perp walk photos. cop's name is "anger" lmfao.
