A rapid CRISPR test could completely transform the diagnosis of Pneumocystis pneumonia, a life-threatening fungal infection. Today it typically requires invasive bronchoscopy, but this test enables rapid detection from blood or throat swabs. www.jci.org/articles/vie...

i want to live on a shared street w/ 4-story point access blocks, buildings set to the front 2/3 of the lot and side yard setbacks, with corner stores, and parking removed for trees and community.

"The striking thing about this chart isn't China's manufacturing dominance across key green tech, but rather how far behind the US lags
The EU did better to protect its industrial base in the face of the 1st "China shock," which suggests domestic policies matter most"
remember how i said they were coming for the 30 year mortgage specifically over 6 months ago, right?
Many such cases!
Not sure how safe it is, but for looks this handrail is the best!

"China's industrial transformation has been truly remarkable.
In 2000, China accounted for 6% of global industrial production.
In 2030, China is expected to account for 45% of global industrial production."

BREAKING: “The single most comprehensive rezoning in the United States.” Cambridge Mass. Council just voted overwhelmingly to allow 6-storey multi-family housing city-wide.
“Paris-style.”
Congratulations.
Imo that’s going to be a real problem. There may come a breaking point from users’ perspectives but sadly maybe not. Ads won’t shutter X cause of Elon’s wealth, its user base is still much bigger. Functionality similar. Aka Bluesky probably needs a non-political “POD” if it wants to scale.
yeah basically, it’s the people who don’t see their platform use in a primarily political way that really matter. A lot of liberals / the left are off twitter - but non-political accounts aren’t. For example, all the hip/hop commentators I followed are still on “X” - and not on here.
This essentially encapsulates Bluesky’s problem. It’s basically populated by ethically motivated / politicos. It’s social media minus normies.
the first good post i think i've ever seen from a democratic committee account
Absolutely fantastic news as sickle cell gene therapy is to be rolled out for sickle cell academia with a one off treatment curing 97% of patients 🧪

Apparently the sharp selloff in US markets this morning is all about competition from DeepSeek on AI - not Trump's tariff belligerence.
The theme of the week: competition cannot be simply dismissed*

The language of “guilt” is such a giveaway here. It’s impossible for people who weren’t alive during the Nazi era to be guilty of what those people did, but it’s definitely possible for people today who empathize with the Nazis to feel guilty for those feelings.
An absolute no brainer to give this power to Mayors in England. Yet the Treasury is too cautious even to allow this.
any specific examples you think are likely?
This proposal - that the Treasury should sell index-linked defined benefit pensions, ie annuities, directly to the pub- seems quite reasonable/sensible to me. Are there any obvious objections?

Fascinating. In the 2000s both the USA & China were concerned about 'foreign oil' dependence. The US solved it via 'fracking' & China is trying via industrial policy/EVs. Interestingly, US oil demand has also peaked/plateaued due to general stagnation! www.ft.com/content/341f...
there's a great architecture studio i'd love to be teaching on the potentialities of single stair...
this project is social housing in paris.
8 floors. single stair. there's nowhere in the US we could build this (and even if we could - we don't know how!)

The price level for UK housing was 44% above OECD average in 2022
We mutter a lot about housing in the UK. BUT IT'S 44% MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE OECD AVERAGE.

quite yes, sad to see no progress on this from the new government (or on zoning either), an optimist might hope the forthcoming new town proposals will help?
These are some incredible sentences.
