I was a history teacher and I know we have to be documenting this moment. When we look back, I don’t want us to say we didn’t know what was happening.

Stephen Miller, probably the most joyless man in America, wants to take away one of our most foundational rights, habeas corpus.

Good decision.
There is a coup going on and nobody is safe from our dictator and Elon the Nazi.
Tragic times for the former USA.

It's always wrong to vandalize personal property and that certainly includes Teslas, and also: your government is actively disappearing innocent people without due process, so, you know, that second one is taking up my empathetic bandwidth at the moment.

Elon is such a terrible intersection of mentally unhealthy, completely stupid, overconfident, and rich. I used to fall for his schtick, but realized what a scam it all was early on. I can't imagine still thinking he's anything but a hollow moron.

Opinion: Dismissing researchers and scientists makes us vulnerable. There will be another virus. There are quite a lot of things viruses can teach us, if we are willing to listen. They can teach us what American scientists can do when supported and funded. They can teach us who is considered e…

I was asked to write a reflection on the 5-year anniversary of the covid-19 pandemic. This is what I had to say. I am struggling to find moments of hope. But I know they are necessary for our collective survival.

Adopt Molly on Petfinder Molly is an adoptable Cat - Domestic Medium Hair searching for a forever family near Elkton, MD. Use Petfinder to find adoptable pets in your area.

Beautiful, shy senior Molly is still waiting for a home. She is just looking for a quiet place to nap in the sun with someone that doesn’t mind she may never be a lap cat (though she does accept pets, she doesn’t seek out affection so far, though that could change) www.petfinder.com/cat/molly-75...

Hi Emily. I’ve risen to your challenge & posted my first cat pic + commentary on @Bluecoupbycat.bsky.social. I have no idea how to post or share pics on another’s site. Is there somewhere I can get this info?

Successful cat baking techniques: Ricky (Riccardo dai bellissimi baffoni) anchors his back legs on my stomach when he’s making biscuits. Then he shifts them every few seconds to gain better leverage & traction. This results in superior biscuits.
Here he is, preparing to back up & anchor.

Pursued by the bad guys, 5 Siblings, aged 7-14, must visit 8 worlds attached to earth, to collect talismans to open portal to rescue mom, imprisoned in the 9th. Each world represents earth’s past, from land of dinos, Australopithecus country, to Russian revolution & Hiroshima just before the blast.

Same here. Plus my pub before retiring was all academic. ALL published writing is terrible to its author. This is a given.
My YA target audience is 11-15. But since I’ve planned for a 9 book series, the ages of audience should grow with that of the protagonists.

Thanks. Will visit tomorrow.

Yup, plse.
Also any you’ve published for sale.
My first 3 YA (my A is very Y) books have just completed a rigorous review & edit by my writing group - all trad published. I’ll add some of their suggestions & submit to agents.
I’m still trying this route rather than indie. We’ll see.

I don’t post my poetry online because then it’s considered published & ineligible for competitions. Bummer. Same for short stories & publishers. Bummer!
For you, I’ll post one that placed in a Writer’s Digest contest. When I can find it. Might take a while.
Anywhere I can see yours?

I’ll post some cat pics tomorrow. A world resting on words instead of tortoises (or is it pachyderms?) I like it. 👆🏻

You sound lovely. Mkt & tech? Welcome to my neighborhood.
As for me - Elder yes, wise? Not so much. Or only of the ‘do as I say, not as I do’ kind. As I get older I find there’s an INFINITE number of mistakes still to make.
Write Poetry (dark & sad) & YA fantasy (light & funny.) How about you?

Will do! Love the idea. They just loaf around all day & should work for their Churu treats. Mousing just doesn’t cut it.

Thanks for replying so promptly. I guess that would make me crone-plus - I turned 80 last March 😁.
I have a multitude of cats (well, 7.) I was a uni grad-(MBA) Prof in marketing, business startup, & technology strategy. I also consulted. Seems a lifetime ago. Retired in 2014. Now I write.

Yes. I don’t have much to offer, since I’m in constant pain, disabled, poor & old. But I’ll help all I can.

Covid, H5N1, global runaway warming, genocide like in Gaza, Syria, Ukraine. 2025 will be a year of enormous challenges.
Yet we MUST resist. Holding hands, united, marching forward one small step at a time. 3/3

The news media are totally corrupt, & the majority of people are fed a pablum of lies & hopium. I don’t know how one breaks through the twisted narrative bubbles to form a large enough core of resisters. We exist in small outposts on social media, reaching out to each other through the void. 2/

in the US, much of the working class has turned fascist & has been sucked into Trump’s narrative of isms & hate. Plus, this convicted felon has been bought by Musk & other robber barons & has assembled a band of incompetents to fill all senior government roles. 1/
