LOVE IT

I am on a one man mission to slide marine invert citations into my pharma work. It is....slow going.

I want to scream at those people: MOST LIFE ON THIS PLANET LOOKS MORE LIKE A MARINE CREATURE THAN A HUMAN IN TERMS OF GENETIC VARIATION

No, because it was never about efficiency....

I am not curious. The answer is no. But it isn't hypocrisy. Its only hypocrisy if you think these cuts were about efficiency in the first place.

I think he understands perfectly well but chooses to say that stuff anyways.

I don't know about you, but I enjoyed President Musk's first oval office press conference. He even brought his kid and some sort of orange puppet to entertain him. He's a nice dad.

No. That is very fair.

Eh....its not like there aren't problems over there.

There might be something to this if the administration returned this money to researchers. Is that going to happen...doubt it.

In any case, this is a stupid way to do reform. In fact, its literally the opposite because now we get chaos and lawsuits.

NOT-OD-25-068: Supplemental Guidance to the 2024 NIH Grants Policy Statement: Indirect Cost Rates NIH Funding Opportunities and Notices in the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts: Supplemental Guidance to the 2024 NIH Grants Policy Statement: Indirect Cost Rates NOT-OD-25-068. OD

1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%.

I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters.

Why are so many of my human functional variants outside of TFBS?? (or ones I know about)

1 year ago 0 0 0 0

Thanks but also no thanks? Now I have one more thing to check.... ;)

1 year ago 1 0 0 0

More TFBS with larger genome? Or the other way?

1 year ago 0 0 1 0

I had not heard that story before. I'm bothered by how often this sort of money shifting happens. This was also essentially what happened to my group leader position -- the University shifted funds around and then the budget got tight and suddenly...surprise! No more money for juniors.

How general do you think this is in life (or at least plant life) vs. (maybe??) some kind of impact for how variation is selected as part of the breeding process? Its really striking how localized your results are for TFBS and not "regulation" in a more general sense.

Oh, thanks for this. I actually needed a citation for more or less this point. Perfect.

Does it involve a gentle fight over shadow enhancers? I'm stuck in a wormhole of papers since last week....thanks for that..... ;)

But don't you think all the problems will be solved by GrokAI? Clearly.

Apparently DEI invented genetics too.

You know, when the AI comes for our jobs, people who can manipulate little marine creatures with actual tools will be the last people left with jobs....man career advice got weird these last few years.

I have had that result haunting my brain since that paper....

1 year ago 0 0 0 0

And yet, in terms of direct recipe for success, this advice is correct. Its not good, but I see essentially nothing in the reward structure of academics that values anything other than focus on yourself.
