Aside from who started it, states like CA and VA putting a counter-gerrymander up to a referendum, where people are told and can make a decision on the context for why it's being done, has vastly more democratic legitimacy than state legislators rushing it through because they got bullied by POTUS.
Democrats did not want to do any mid-decade redistricting. It was Trump who started it in June 2025 with a phone call to Greg Abbott after more special election losses. Dems warned they’d respond. But Texas did it anyway - without the consent of the voters. Then Dems responded.

Loss of jobs and status for hard working Black professionals such as doctors and teachers. Black businesses lost customers. And then white parents pulled their kids out of the schools and we started down the path of the new segregation we’re in now.

Thats right they wanted the Equal part of Seperate but Equal to become a reality. We deserved a check and government investment into our communities. Not just forced integration into public spaces.
If you talk to the Black elders, they'll tell you many were not fans of desegregation. Black children were being bussed into unfamiliar white environments they wanted no parts of. They asked for the same resources. Not assimilation and conformity into white spaces.

My sister passing away was tough. Because she was my little sister and it was unexpected.
I also find great comfort in taking care of my niece and nephew. They call me for any and everything and I love it.

Not sure about that. My sister passed, then my mom, then my dad. All within 2 years. The hurt just kept getting worse. I don't want to be VIP at anymore funerals.
