The seven levels of hell have nothing on the Philly Airport and @americanair.bsky.

I’d like to thank the TSA for closing checkpoint B at Sky Harbor so I could race an extra mile in a giant square around the airport to get to my B gate and worry about being late at 4 am.

The Meteosat-12 satellite captured this space perspective of the partial #SolarEclipse yesterday morning 🌍🌑🌞

In a partial solar eclipse, the Moon moves between Earth and the Sun, partially blocking the sunlight 🧪

I have discovered there are pen shows and I must go to one as soon as possible. If there are notebook shows, it’s crucial that nobody tell me.

Figure 9. The Surface of Last Screaming. Consider an infinite field full of people screaming. The circles are their heads. You are screaming too. (Your head is the black dot.) Now suppose everyone stops screaming at the same time. What will you hear? Sound travels at 330 m/s. One second after everyone stops screaming you will be able to hear the screams from a `surface of last screaming' 330 meters away from you in all directions. After 3 seconds the faint screaming will be coming from 1 km away...etc. No matter how long you wait, faint screaming will always be coming from the surface of last screaming - a surface that is receding from you at the speed of sound (`vsound'). The same can be said of any observer - each is the center of a surface of last screaming. In particular, observers on your surface of last screaming are currently hearing you scream since you are on their surface of last screaming. The screams from the people closer to you than the surface of last screaming have passed you by - you hear nothing from them (gray heads). When we observe the CMB in every direction we are seeing photons from the surface of last scattering. We are seeing back to a time soon after the big bang when the entire universe was opaque (screaming).

I think there is a very big problem we have to grapple with which is that the median voter is extraordinarily deluded about the working of the world to the point of complete mental incapacity.

Was reading @andreagibson.bsky.social’s poem ‘Love Me To Life’ from their book “You Better Be Lightning” and realized that ‘asking someone out’ should really be called ‘asking someone in’.

Despite my crankiness (horror, actually) over the inauguration, I’m going to calm my soul by focusing on things I can actually address. It’s #MisconceptionMonday, and today we’re addressing this one:

Is the Cascadia subduction zone overdue for a massive earthquake?
