When I was a kid we had a cat who would show how mad she was at us for leaving her at "summer camp" (what my parents called boarding her) by sitting in the middle of the room with her back to us. It was very pointed. She would do it until we'd coaxed her enough, and then she'd deign to forgive us.

But she can't be after his $3.50, so she also has to hold down a job that pays well, too. But not too well. Can't make him feel emasculated. Just enough to cover all expenses for herself and the kids, so that he can continue to spend his money on fun stuff for himself. Modern tradwife.

He’s talked about the two of us living together when Mom moves to assisted living (soon), and then the three of us when they’re ready to live together. I don’t feel warm and fuzzy being ignored that way. This is only the third time she’s come over. I would kind of expect best behavior still.
No “how was your week, Becky?” No suggestion of another topic. Just back to the phone, while I sit there otherwise alone in the room. I’m sorry, but that’s rude.
Under other circumstances I’d be like, “oh, well. I tried.” But my brother is already talking about marrying her.
At one point, my brother and mother wandered off, and it was just the two of us in the kitchen. She was playing on her phone. I asked her how her week was, and she put her phone down to tell me about some frustrations she’s having at work. We exhaust the topic, and she picks up her phone again.
My brother has a new girlfriend, and I’m not 100% sold. I mean, she’s not terrible or anything. And I’m trying to keep in mind that we appear to have no interests in common, which makes it harder to get to know someone.
My brother brought her over for dinner tonight.
