i enjoyed it as my first AAA game but i can definitely recognize that the latter half of the game was tons of wasted potential that the dlc tried to smooth over

and im kinda 🤷‍♀️ on the second wave of dlc being cancelled because it would’ve led to an alternate ending anyway so it’s whatever

Hi, as a Turkish person who grew up in Turkey, whose culture has been used in Thavanair and Corvosi gear (Partially and wholly), you're not fetishising my culture by liking said gear. You're not participating in Orientalism. You're not indirectly racist. That's my stance for those who are curious.

everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but these are just my thoughts as an asian person growing up in a world that has often flipped the switch on how it treats us.

i think we could all stand to share a little more love around instead of always defaulting to assuming the worst in people. ✌️

cultures are not monoliths, and neither are the people in them. (and mixed people are not "lesser" for not being fully from one culture or another.)

i will always defer to someone from a culture for whether representation is good or bad, but imo ignorant love is lightyears better than xenophobia.

of course i don't think sqex is perfect when it comes to representing world cultures through the game (i have some Opinions about the chinese region being treated as japan 2) but a person being from a particular culture doesn't make them the sole arbiter of how that culture should be represented.

i think people tend to throw around the word "racism" and "racist" without really understanding what it means; obviously there's good and bad reps and we can always strive to do better, but treating ignorance with good intentions as a hate crime is not the way you should go about a globalized world.

re: cultural representation

i'm really not a fan of this conversation treating imperfect representations as immediate racism/fetishism/etc.; there's a very clear distinction between racism and being misinformed, and creating an environment of absolutes just fosters hatred and negativity.
