Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Took me about 30 seconds on google to get a definition because I didn’t know what it means. It feels like that should be what professional journalists do.
It’s adorable that you think that’s how it would actually work in practice
I’d argue there’s nothing more British than immiserating the vulnerable because we’ve convinced ourselves tabloid fiction is actually real life
Yeah it happened during COVID.
If you think there were safeguards against coercion in this bill you’re delusional, and you don’t understand what life is like for disabled people in Scotland.
An image featuring three hand-drawn emoticons (sad, angry, and eye-rolling) at the top, followed by a satirical take on "toxic positivity." The text reads: "IT'S JUST A BAD DAY, NOT A BAD LIFE." Babe, it's been a bad decade. Let's not minimize the horror. @dear_chronic_pain

As much as assisted dying legislation failed in Scotland it is still a reminder that most people in Scotland think people like me would be better off dead.
Religion was barely mentioned in the opposition to the bill.
I'm going to stop my rage-induced posting flurry after this but: if I don't see some pretty fucking intense activism on behalf of people not able to access adequate pain services from all these enthusiasts for "assisted dying" in the near future, I'm going to be making some considered judgements.
Reminder this is mostly disabled people who are fearful of coercion.
I’m really fucking tired of disabled people being compared to pets
I’d love to see all 57 kicked out in May I know I’ll be voting against my sitting MSP because of his vote today.
This kind of delusion is why assisted dying legislation would be dangerous.
There are no safeguards that could ensure coercion wasn’t possible.
A propaganda video from the ghouls at Dignity in Dying?! Really?!
The thing that I am struck with about this assisted dying debate is Pam Duncan-Glancy’s speech. If she struggles that much to get the necessary care what chance do the rest of us have?
"...policy debates often treat the able-bodied imagination of disability as more authoritative than the experiences of those who have adapted to it."
Excellent piece about Assisted Dying from the perspective of a disabled person

This speech had me in tears.
MSPs vote today on the assisted dying Bill. Many will wrestle with what to do. The right thing to do is vote against because no training can ensure coercion is detected & no 'safeguards' can't be got round now & removed later. This Bill is dangerous. I'm scared by where it will lead.
For supporters of assisted dying: why are you so focussed on dignity in death when this society doesn't offer disabled people (and lots of poor people) dignity in life?
"what is really worth recognizing is that able-bodied fears, rather than disabled realities, are distorting public thinking about “assisted dying.”
Excellent piece. Every word.

Are you suggesting that the examples from the media are lies? Are you calling disability campaigners liars?
Michelle Thompson is a disgrace.

This debate is example number 53524 why Daniel Johnson is one of Scotland’s best politicians

I found Douglas Ross’ speech more compassionate than Maggie Chapman’s. Stop and marvel at that for a second.
I found Chapman’s speech incredibly cold and heartless.
I Will Die On This Hill by Meghan Ashburn and Jules Edwards
My MSP thinks living like me is intolerable but he’s not advocating for proper support to help me live a more tolerable life, he’s voting so that I will be able to kill myself with NHS help.
The same NHS that missed the diagnosis leaving me in pain for 50 years.
