I stand corrected; Johnson's response was different than I expected. Apparently, blasphemy trumps threats of genocide in the speaker's mind.

From what I understand, this is a safety net and will not erase the productivity incentives that come with capitalism, but it will erase the cruelty. Given the greed in our current system, I am concerned about inflation erasing the benefits. Regulations would have to be put in place and enforced.
Trump's proposed military spending increase of 1.5 trillion dollars for 2027 would already pay for five $1000 monthly payments per person. This doesn't account for the savings that would come from people having access to housing, food, and healthcare that they didn't have before or the GDP increase.
And, 12 hours later, it's closed again.
The press will ask Speaker Mike Johnson about this, so his people are currently crafting a reply. It will be some version of: "I do not have time to read every online post, so I am not familiar with the image you are speaking of." The entire GOP needs to be held accountable for Trump's behavior.

If this was a concern last year, why is it not mentioned today? The news media's short attention span enables autocracy.
Monochrome is a reflective song about the cycles of history that create familiar patterns in unfamiliar shades. It’s about looking back and realizing the echoes are still there, but with different voices.

Diversity is a strength. I prefer conversations with people who have different backgrounds from me because my understanding of the world increases.
I agree! We have a similar forecast in New England for next week and it is not considering our feelings about the current warmth

Administration officials keep saying that Alex Pretti was "with a gun" to infer that he was a threat. This video clearly shows that federal agents unholstered Pretti's gun and then shot him in the back. Remember this evidence every time you hear or read justifications of this murder.

An Account of a late Military Massacre at Boston, or the Consequences of Quartering Troops in a populous Town. BOSTON March 12, 1770. THE Town of Boston affords a recent and melancholy Demonstration of the destructive consequences of quartering troops among citizens in time of Peace, under a pretence of supporting the laws and aiding civil authority; every considerate and unprejudic'd Person among us was deeply imprest with the apprehension of these consequences when it was known that a number of regiments were ordered to this town under such a pretext, but in reality to inforce oppressive measures; to awe and controul the legslative as well as executive power of the province, and to quell a spirit of liberty, which however it may have been basely and even ridicul'd by some, would do honour to any age or country. A few persons among us had determin'd to use all their influence to procure so destructive a measure, with a view to their securely enjoying the profits of an American revenue, and unhappily both for Britain and this country, they found means to effect it. It's his loss. When I started reading his work, I thought he was creating a series that would be remembered by future generations. Once I saw that he handed the reins to HBO for what remained of the stories, I was upset, but also felt sorry for him. The money was good, but he lost his legacy.
I agree. Unfortunately, creating a constant stream of headlines is the strategy for this administration. By making each one more ridiculous, it normalizes previous actions and distracts us from more important issues. I cringe every time I receive a notification.
It's a win-win for him. It privately helps his true-love Putin by weakening NATO and it is a distraction from the biggest skeleton in his closet (Epstein). Most of what he does can be attributed to these factors, and every decision he makes is like a very obtuse version of a Breaking Bad episode.
Why, of all places, is Trump obsessed with taking Greenland? A place, by the way, which America ALREADY has permission from NATO ally Denmark to deploy more troops to if we wanted to?
Because if the U.S. attacked Greenland (Denmark), NATO would cease to exist.
Which is what Trump wants. And Putin.
If you get your news from the right sources (emphasis on the word "right"), you can pretend that you're one of the good guys. In this space, Kristi Noem can call Renee Good a domestic terrorist while she and others demand that people stop prejudging the shooter (while also declaring him innocent)
Ahem
I think it is probably a bad idea to put clearly unhinged, angry psychopaths in federal law enforcement positions.

"The clearest sign that a democracy has died is that a leader and his party make it impossible for their opponents to win an election and hold power. Once that stage is reached, however, the change is extremely difficult to reverse."
