Also of note: the longer you make the sfx, the smaller they appear. KRRRRRRAAAAAAAAASSSSSHH, for example, will look like an epileptic spasm more than a crash.

I love when people recommend books I've never heard of that are practically tailor made for me. This was recommended by @sidewalksiren.bsky.social of @cbccpodcast.bsky.social after 50 pages, I can firmly say I'm truly captivated and terrified. Abbey Luck is hitting a home run!

a human animal, perhaps, I don' know, a hardware-store owning BEAR who's otherwise fairly nice, holding a blood-drippy blade in one hand, the severed head of a white rabbit in the other. the rabbit looks exceedingly sad about this turn of events. understandable. the bear holding that rabbit is wearing bluejeans and workboots and a plaid shirt, thought I say that with trepidation, as I don't really know where "plaid" stops and other patterns/designs & ways of referring to them start—I don't wear them, so why would I stop to learn such things? anyway, shirt's coming unbuttoned at the BOTTOM, right before the tuck-in, so, I mean, that's all you need to know about who the bad guy here is, yes? YES? also, there's a slowly widening pool of blood. oh, and some words. don't forget the scary-font words: "Beneath the trees where nobody sees Rite of Spring." the exclamation point is implied / very much felt. there's some credits too, movie-poster style, specifically, 1980s movie-poster style, but, man, they're small and blurry, and, though I'm only halfway close to the cap I'm allowed in these alt_texts—I cap you can bet I've felt out before—still, I don't think I have quite what it takes to faithfully reproduce them all, here. but it's names, and attributions. all of which is important. some might say they're even more important than me just going on and on about how I'm not going to enter them here, taking probably eight times as much typing as if I just HAD. but, that fork in the textual road was a while back already. it always was.

poster for Maniac (1980: a killer-dude in jeans and workbooks holding a fairly killer blade (dagger / both sides look to be sharp) in one hand and a human scalp (woman's, blond) in the other, with "I Warned You Not To Go Out Tonight / MANIAC" in scary font over it all. also, there's a puddle of dripping blood. and the dude's shirt's coming unbuttoned at the bottom—THAT'S how you know he's the titular character, here.

headsup that @patrickhorvath.bsky.social's Beneath the Trees: The Rites of Spring #6 from @idwpublishing.com drops Wednesday. You've all read 1 – 5 already, yes? And the first six as well? very much dig all the nods & fun, as, you know, you can see here (not the cover I got, but I should have):

On a day when we could all use some good news---the orders on GODZILLA issue 9 were actually above issue 8! THE KING OF MONSTERS CONQUERS STANDARD ATTRITION (would be a terrible movie). Thanks readers, and @idwpublishing.com !

The Kai-Sei era Godzilla by @hackintimseeley.bsky.social and Nikola Cizmesija is top notch. Tim really gets Godzilla in a unique way and I love the decision to have humans being able to harness Kai-Sei powers. They just released 7 and it's a great jumping on point.

But wait, Nate, there’s an extremely comprehensive and thoroughly researched index featured in this edition! That’s kind of new! Not exciting, I know, but technically new.
