If all you're selling is information, you can only ever get information prices (and a lot of information is free these days).
But people crave stories, identity and connection to place. It is as essential as language, dress, and food.
That's why what I do matters.

DC folk – TOMORROW – I'm (map prints) partnering with Studio 6101 (maps, painted journals) and Pewee Press (bird prints!) to do a good ol' fashioned backyard art market.

This is my favorite climate change chart. Japanese monks, aristocrats, and emperors kept meticulous records of cherry blossom festivals for 1,200 years and accidentally built the world's longest climate dataset.
Which of the new DC-focused publications is going to bring back Date Lab?
Continue to wonder if posts/blogs/media verifiably time stamped prior to the year 2025 will have some sort of premium going forward as much less likely to be AI-created content.
Was at a party where someone was detailing this incident.
Wild.
During the Kosovo War in 1999, the US accidentally bombed the Chinese embassy in Belgrade because they thought it was a propaganda broadcasting location. The CIA hadn't updated their database. AI is neat sometimes but it's worthless without good data curation. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_...
A map of part of the US south, showing the counties in grey. An arbitrary group of a few dozen counties is highlighted in gold, and makes a shape resembling three equilateral triangles.
Sure, many people know about MIMAL the Chef/Elf (a group of US states that look like a chef holding a pan), but how many have ever noticed that this group of counties in the South kinda looks like the Triforce?

Granted when your parents can afford college tuition for K-12, and that this is what they're focusing on, does feel like a fairly self-selecting crowd that's going to succeed for reasons outside of education.
Aside everything else, do wonder how a kid internalizes that the adults in their life are giddy to offload them onto a digital teacher instead of taking time out themselves to teach them.
I'm thrilled to share that l've successfully completed the consumption of a high-fiber organic nutrient delivery system (commonly known as an apple). This experience reinforced the importance of consistent daily habits and proactive health management in maintaining peak professional performance. Grateful for the opportunity to fuel my growth and stay sharp for the challenges ahead. #HealthAndWellness #PersonalGrowth #Consistency #FuelingSuccess #Optimization

Folks running news orgs have exactly one move
- 20% of art until it's finished and then 50-70%, upticking as time goes on.
- 100% of web dev (utilitarian)
- 100% of music (not for public consumption)
So glad I got to work with ya for four years instead of four months this time. Absolute pleasure on those partnerships, can't wait to read what ya get up to over there!!
Daylight savings times still hitting.
Man this is such an unexpected and pretty snow.
Snow is so lovely.

As a fan of lettering and homages that spends way too much time thinking of how to represent city names, *god damn*.
this art???????????
Been a fan of this map for awhile: "Monarchs and Queens" from Rebecca Solnit's Infinite City: A San Francisco Atlas. Juxtaposes butterfly habitats and queer spaces in SF.
“Since the age of cartography, we’ve had pretty good maps, but maybe they weren’t gay enough."
Now there's a challenge if I ever heard one.
Which speaking of, if any DC folks know of any shopkeepers or markets that I could peddle my maps at this upcoming spring, reach out!

Man, these generated art sites are depressing as hell. Easy to detect (who made these? dodgey on materials, sprouted out of nowhere last year, etc.), but hope no one's actually fooled by these.
Buy local, folks!
Hello! How goes it?

Say hi if you're here too.
Running an hour long workshop Saturday if you'd like to hear me gab about automated workflows and try out some for yourself.

Data/design folks, what is your favorite visual that focuses on the human cost of violence, tragedies and disasters? The most emotionally impactful visualization? The most visually striking?
Please share! I'd like to get as many examples as possible.
