i still think this idea could have merit in the current day but i'm trying to think of in what ways. so far i have
- novelty/nostalgia/community feel (etc intangible reasons)
- full customizability with any media embeds or text length
- some digital trinket for joining? pixel badge? HTML embed code?

if you can’t tell, i have never actually formed an understanding of how the dexnav works. i just know search level going up = boosted shiny odds and that’s about it. i was wondering if maybe the way it does PID rolls makes square shininess more likely or something

do ORAS dexnav hunts have increased odds of having square sparkles in SWSH (the base odds are 1/16 for gen 6 transfers if i’m understanding correctly) or did Latte here just get really lucky?

i do think that specific adef video does a good job of trying to put everything into terms that the public can understand because he was genuinely trying to quell this drama for the community so there is that

it's okay to not be good at math but if someone knows they aren't good at statistics they probably shouldn't be using it to argue about a statistics problem.
in general i think the whole multi-hunting debate is inherently elitist but if people want to solve it they should do it correctly

i agree in general though, just kind of the issue with any hobby or community that gets big. kiki still mourns the loss of the smaller ribbon mastering community lol

these streams definitely still exist and my previous community surrounded a smaller streamer, but real life got to him because this isn't his career and he's an adult with a kid now. he's actually back and still streams on occasion but i have a life now too which means i can't join most of the time💔

i see where you're coming from but i don't think making people pivot to time measurements would solve much, especially because i already see people use time spent as a bargaining chip for their elitism all the time. i just wish people would spread good math on "either side" of the debate

as for youtube specifically, i already see people use the time taken on hunts as clickbait so i guess that's already happening lol. videos like "i spent 2 years getting this shiny" and it's not even particularly true because they took a year break, that kind of thing (not judging using good titles)

you definitely don’t have to lose your URL! if you want to cut ties entirely with wix, i recommend doing a domain transfer to something generic like namecheap, unless you already have a new domain registrar in mind. you can google details of that

you’re stuck with drop and drop editors like carrd, strawpage, wix, weebly, squarespace, etc… i don’t care a whole lot for those so i can’t easily recommend the best one but i have seen people make a lot of creative layouts with carrd and strawpage (still with some limits but not as same-y)

neocities is IMO the absolute best place to start if you actually want to code your own website/get into HTML as a hobby. my website blue moon falls is still on there to this day! there’s alternatives like neko web, but harder to get into as a beginner i think

i have 0 interest in starting drama and this happened years ago so maybe things are different there now, i have no idea. but this wasn’t something that happened in some obscure server no one knows about. my point is that this behavior does unfortunately exist, sometimes.

i will never forget when a friend of mine mentioned using speedup in a shiny hunting server we were in. not only was the response harsh and immediate with people making fun of them, they were also called the R slur. i was not listened to when i asked for my friend not to be called slurs so i left

i’d love to curate my own space but i don’t really have the time or energy to put into that right now
anyway, i’m just rambling about my personal feelings here and to reiterate this is not a “problem” that needs fixing or the fault of anyone in particular. it’s just the way it goes sometimes

unfortunately i don’t personally have a solution for this. even i feel kind of estranged sometimes; my previous attempts at joining shiny hunting servers have either not been social or have ended in flames separate from me, and the one small community i was active in became a lot less active
