"Half of villages still have no drinking water...At least 4,000 children are set to start school this week in UNICEF-provided tents during the hottest time of the year, in cyclone season."

So grateful everyone at the Ministry of Lands in Vanuatu is okay after last month's earthquake. #StructuralEngineers on BlueSky - what are your thoughts on the rebar and concrete blocks shown in these photos? www.facebook.com/share/p/19r9...
I couldn't find a #StarterPack for #WASH professionals working on #SDG6 6.1 & 6.2, so I created this: bsky.app/starter-pack.... Want to join? Who else am I missing?

What a wonderful idea! To all my friends who have been aid workers on the frontline during the holidays so many times - Thank you!
Vanuatu, the most hazard prone country in the world, experienced yet another earthquake last week. Ni-Vanuatu know how to respond during and after an emergency. I understand one of the best ways you can help now is go be a tourist. The vacation venues are ready for you!

I've seen many photos of damaged plastic water tanks during Vanuatu's 7.4 earthquake & I took many photos similar to this during cyclones, so engineering friends who wants to design some tank strapping that is really easy to install? #EngineeringChallenge #DesignThinking #HumanCenteredDesign
Wise community members in Vanuatu notice low river levels & warn others that landslides during the 7.4 earthquake may have blocked the river’s natural flow upstream which could eventually breach, leading to a sudden and catastrophic flash flood.
“It’s a rush against time to get water trucks organized for those areas so that we prevent a second disaster, which is a diarrhea outbreak,” Brecht Mommen, a @UNICEF water, sanitation and hygiene specialist based in Vanuatu speaking after the earthquake on the 18th.

An estimated 40,000 children are in need of humanitarian assistance after a devastating 7.3 magnitude earthquake hit Vanuatu yesterday, followed by several major aftershocks.

Thanks to a new tank the two tanks could supply all normally, however, given the transmission line damage it'll be awhile. Note, the hospital has water. They'll be another update tomorrow. (I'm pretty sure I remember Bislama well enough that my translation of the water portion of this is correct)
Thanks to UNELCO/ENGIE usually one can drink water from the tap in Port Vila, Vanuatu. The pump station, chlorination and two tanks are fine, but the earthquake damaged three tanks and many underground pipes. Everyone is being asked to conserve water. www.facebook.com/reel/1353454...
The new Vanuatu Ministry of Lands building damaged during yesterday's 7.4 Earthquake. For WASH Friends, all Department of Water Resources friends are accounted for.
There is no running water in Port Vila due to Earthquake damage. Vanuatu's capital usually has amazing water that everyone drinks from the tap thanks to @UNELCO @ENGIE. Unfortunately, @unicef.org reporting higher diarrhea already.
Hi everyone. We just got power and water restored, albeit a bit tenuously.
Here's the National Disaster Management Offfice situation report:
A 7.4 earthquake ended communications, destroyed >4 buildings, & damaged water supply, but I am sure the incredibly resilient people of Vanuatu are doing all they can to help others help.unicef.org, www.facebook.com/share/p/18GL..., www.facebook.com/share/p/1EEY..., www.facebook.com/share/p/1DuH...
In Malawi, where public high school isn’t free, girls are often the first to drop out, cutting short their dreams and potential. But with support from UNICEF and MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell, the K.I.N.D. (Kids in Need of Desks) Fund is changing that.
Here, one student shares her #KINDFund story:
Ralph Regenvanu, Special Envoy for Climate Change and
Environment for #Vanuatu: "I choose my words carefully when I say that this may well be the most consequential case in the history of humanity. Let us not allow future generations to look back and wonder why the cause of their doom was condoned."
