Last week there were a couple of big anniversaries, here are some Famitsu charts from 30 and 25 years ago.

The 2018 update was the final update for PS3 and Wii games, here are the list of top selling games for both platforms.

This 2019 update will likely be the final for WIU, NDS & XB1.

Monster Hunter Stories 3 is off to a rough launch in Japan.

Retail launch was less than half of the second game, it's the second worst launch for MH spin off.

Digital should be higher, but I doubt it makes up for it. A drop from 2 was expected, but not to this point.

No indication that the current SKU is going away, but I'm wondering if this is some kind of stealth price increase.

Sales of the PS5 in Japan are still pretty low even with the cheaper SKU, I'd assume Sony is losing a pretty yen on each console sold (This applies to the SW2 too)

On April 24th there'll be a new version of the Japanese language only PS5, one that comes with two controllers.

65k yen, more or less the same as what the current Japan only model costs + an extra controller.

Japan Digital Rankings for February 2026

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, Pokémon FireRed/LeafGreen and Resident Evil Requiem were the top downloads in Japan for February.

eShop rankings only include games up to CERO D. So CERO Z games, like RE Requiem, are not included.

It's the 3rd biggest launch on Switch 2 so far, biggest for a non bundled game.

It's a bigger launch than both DQ Builders, as well as any version of Minecraft and all Animal Crossing games except the 3DS and SWI ones.

Retail launch sales of Pokémon Pokopia are the second biggest for a Pokémon spin off, only below the second Mystery Dungeon title.

It had a 1m launch with digital, which I think it's the biggest launch for a spin off of any kind in Japan.

March should be a big month with Pokopia (6th) and Monster Hunter Stories 3 (13th)
