@ulabeast.bsky.social was interviewed on CBS’s “The Takeout” about “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” and its namesake ship. She was amazing.

He was! He was a loveable goofus

Thanks all for the birthday wishes! My amazing wife, @ulabeast.bsky.social, and I spent it dancing like maniacs here in Port Townsend, Washington, with our wonderful friends Heather and Jeffrey. We’re on our way to Vancouver for a few days.
I saw the Dalai Lama walk into a press conference in a hotel in Denver. While he was talking I tripped and fell against a big window he was facing. He stopped talking, smiled and waved at me.
I’ve worked for the 3 FEMA officials mentioned in this article. They know more about coordinating disaster response than anyone I know. Their departure as Hurricane season begins is bad news. If you live on the Gulf or Eastern Seaboard you should be very concerned

Awesome! We’re litter-mates! I hit 30 in January. Just before I got sober I saw the Dead at their last concert at RFK Stadium in DC with Jerry Garcia. A year later he was dead and I had gotten sober.
Gray-haired smiling man holding a framed award from FEMA and a challenge coin.
I received the 2024 FEMA Administrator’s Award for Innovation… three months after I left the Agency… awarded by Cam Hamilton, who is also no longer with FEMA. Still, grateful for the recognition.

That’s pretty dark.
I love it
Happy man holding a copy of the book “The Great Crash 1929” in front of a librarian.
The Michigan Ave @ypsilibrary.org opened yesterday! I’m so happy. I checked out my first book from there yesterday!
This is what happens when the entire protest consists of people who did Yearbook in High School 💜
A shame, especially as the previous incumbent was kind and competent.
One thing: the Acting Chief of Staff (Julia) is a former co-worker and one of the best people at FEMA. She’s had the tough job of announcing a lot of this, as well as doing the hard work.
Smiling man, with a tie standing in the Great Hall of the Detroit Institute of Arts, wearing a badge that says “Hablo Español” (I speak Spanish) and a neck leash that says U.S. Marine Corps.
Another great day volunteering at the Detroit Institute of Arts! I love working with visitors here.
“Il dolce far niente“ is a way of life in Italian: the sweetness of doing nothing.
I went from Zombies, Run! to “Cardio Quest”. The game mechanics are different, more like DnD, but very enjoyable:

Best of luck. The work will have to happen one way or another, so our talent will end up being useful!
BTW cool SQL injection on your profile 😂
I didn’t take the fork… didn’t trust it to maintain my pension. I was old enough to do a regular retirement, and the return-to-office looked like it would impact my remote contract. I’m looking for AI/ML/DS work myself now.
Are you finding work yourself, in this environment?
I loooove them. That whole album is worth a listen
Check out Fripp’s work on The Roches’ “Losing True”:

A strange collaboration I love is Robert Fripp and The Roches, the 70s vocal sisters group that did the “Hallelujah Chorus” for SNL. Fripp collaborated with them on their album “Keep on Doing”. It really holds up
I love “Starless and Bible Black”. I listened to it when it first came out in the ‘70s. Robert Fripp is a genius guitar player. And you’re right, it’s Prog Rock. Lots of great Prog (Yes is another great Prog group)
That should be a new slogan!
Elegantly dressed man with a cape surrounded by beautifully dressed women with elaborate hairstyles in the Great Hall of the Detroit Institute of the Arts
HAIR WARS! My volunteer shift at the Detroit Institute of the Arts coincided with Detroit’s historic Hair Wars beauty battle. The gentleman seated here, surrounded by women wearing his elegant creations, is Wishbone, the self-proclaimed “Michael Jackson of Hair”. It was a privilege to be present.
A kid at a keyboard types Frodo’s quote: “I Know What I Must Do. It's Just... I'm Afraid To Do It”. Three immense muscular men respond “You have my bow!” “And my axe” “My friends… you bow to no one”
This immediately made me think of this:
Especially in “Spirited Away”!
An NPR story about the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima by @ulabeast.bsky.social. Pertinent to us as my son is a USMC Sgt in Japan now.

Hi again! Any ETA on alpha/beta-testing? This sounds like a cool concept and I’d be happy to be a tester
