The Wikipedia article on mass shooting contagion ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_sh... ) is pretty thorough and cites some important sources for research about the phenomenon. Their article on copycat suicides gives additional info, although today's crime was not a suicide.

It's domestic violence. There's a theory in epidemiology that you should under-publicize DV murders or murder/suicides to avoid causing copycat killings. I don't have a cite, it's Sunday, but it's been around at least 15 years.

Not that I'm thrilled with any of the past decades' rearranging of the deckchairs, but they did exist. All my friends' uncles and dads living under bridges in Dallas while they did their new nonunion welding jobs was a hell of a thing.

In the 80's they retrained all the steelworkers to be welders. In the 90's they retrained the loggers to be mechanics and bookkeepers. In the 00's / early 10's everybody got to be either para-healthcare or coders. This go-around it's just Door Dash, Uber and Amazon Warehouse for everybody.
