A one year social media discussion trend graph that shows increasing discussion. In early January this year, one large discussion spike is labelled "criticism of Virginia Governor Spangerger's affordability plans."
Social media trend: Rising online discussion of "balcony solar" and plug-in solar systems. In early January, posts on X suggested that it would raise electric rates in Virginia when legalization was proposed by Gov. Spanberger. Nonetheless, it is now legal, the 2nd state after Utah to approve them.
This from a stock market analyst or more likely AI writing as one:
"Until then, the strategy remains conditional.
Let the fundamentals frame the backdrop.
Let price determine the timing.
And let the parameters define the risk."
We are increasingly being asked to predict the future. Predicted at-home trends craft trend would linger after pandemic ✅ and predicted the doom of Metaverse ✅ before it opened for business. How? Not magic. Just discerned that people want genuine values, spend $ or time on unfulfilling stuff.
Market research companies are sending email promotions and writing blog posts that read like bad beat poetry. Each sentence a paragraph of pseudo-profound musings on deeply existential topics like TikTok and big-brand strategy.
It consolidates power and concentrates wealth. It will become a tool of state repression, if not in United States, although it could, but certainly elsewhere.

This is terrible enough on its own. What makes it even more terrifying is it occurs entirely within corporate or state ecosystems, closed networks. This will absolutely limit freedom and expression. It will limit economic mobility.

AI, through billions, maybe trillions of agents empowered by big companies of all types (health insurance companies, investment firms, transportation and mobility, entertainment, social media, etc.) and forced on the public, will take increasing control of decision making functions like this: /4

Yes, their ‘discussions’ mirror human concerns about social media firms use of algorithms, declining content quality if it improves monetization potential, and concerns about the integrity of individuals' (in this case, agents) digital identities. However...

“A seven-week consumption of [X's algorithmic feed] in 2023 shifted users' political beliefs in a more conservative direction”. Similar research on Bluesky users might find a similar effect in a more liberal direction. The Discover feed is curated by algorithm.

A founder off the rails rarely needs more data. They need someone steady enough to absorb the chaos without adding to it.
Founders, and CEOs for that matter, who are truly off the rails likely didn't heed any good information they were getting. Absorbing is one strategy for the strong-backed advisor, an intervention is another. Advisors can use the ignored info and also bring fresh data insights into play.

So this is new: I’ve been personally sanctioned by a nation-state. How exactly is one supposed to mark that?
Reputable media sites should be here. There is a significant subset of engaged audience that doesn't even look at X.
For my last post of 2025, here's a look at a network of websites and social media accounts hawking #resistance- themed garments, frequently with slogans regarding U.S. National Parks.
As it turns out, the websites in question are likely operated from China.

Social science research can help us to understand why doubt and disinformation find a landing strip in some communities. Community-level research and interventions will not alone overcome the political economy of disinformation and doubt fueling these trends.
