Day 1 if most of my agency being put on administrative leave: pressure washing my patio, planting tomatoes, and cutting back bushes. Keeping busy because what else can I do when we don't know anything? Weather is nice so I'll work while there's light. Tonight is resume updates, just in case.

All of this is in addition to calling your representatives at the local, state, and federal level. Calls work best and you put them there so make them hear you.
For my people worried about public lands start searching or walk into your local park/forest/historic site and volunteer. Many have trail clubs, friends of groups, etc that fundraise and do maintenance on the property. You can at least have a bag to put trash you find in while you hike.
I have a great idea for anyone who thinks FEMA work should be done by individual states. Or if that idea worries you this works too. Go find the CERT team in your community and get trained to support your own town in a disaster. You'll be the state based support and learn how hard it really is.
