We are having a terrible drought in Colorado. Just look what the water authority is doing to cope with this - moving fish so they can drain a reservoir! And it's only April. This is going to be a tough summer.

I saw a message from another writer who got a similar message from an "agent" who wanted to rep her novel - she has never written a novel! It also had a legit agent's name and website, but when she checked, found out the email wasn't legit at all. So, you're right to be skeptical!

The publisher of my poetry collection, A REFUGE OF TALES, will unfortunately be closing at the end of this year. So, they're clearing out stock. Get 20% off with code RENPRESS20. If you haven't gotten a copy yet, this will be your last chance for a while!

Thinking today about Katherine Switzer who ran the Boston Marathon in 1967 when women were banned from the race. The race director tried to forcibly remove her but didn't succeed. "Get out of my race," he said. I have never understood his anger - what exactly was he afraid of?

This is one of my biggest pet peeves - I would like to read some articles people are putting up but I refuse to run that gauntlet.

As a runner, I just have to say that this is meaningless. A car can finish a half marathon faster than a human can run it, too, which shouldn't surprise anyone. An android is a machine...as is a car.

Bluesky main account updating us about an ongoing DDS attack.

Yes, always.

But this time, something just as sinister.

Some posts were claiming the problem was the "AI Enhancement" Bluesky was implementing. It wouldn't surprise me!

So shocking! I met him once, at a polling place where I was waiting in line to vote. He shook everybody's hand - I think that's when he was running for Lt Gov. Anyhow....so sad and hard to believe.

Thank you! And yeah, Twitter has definitely gone downhill - and I could see it coming a few years ago, so dropped out back then. I'm not sure BlueSky will be the best place either, but so far it's better!

Statement from Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R., Archbishop of Newark

In response to recent events, I reaffirm that Pope Leo serves a higher authority and desires to proclaim the Gospel faithfully and advance the Church’s peaceful mission in a world deeply in need of healing. He will continue to speak clearly against war and other offenses against human dignity and to call for authentic dialogue, because the Church’s witness is grounded in the peace of Christ, not in partisan interests.

Recent statements and actions by the President of the United States convey a grave misunderstanding of the Holy Father's ministry and a troubling lack of respect for the faith of millions. The graphic exploitation of sacred imagery is deeply offensive and undermines the reverence owed to what believers hold most dear.

NEW from Cardinal Tobin of Newark — one of the papal electors at the conclave that ultimately chose Pope Leo — regarding Trump's recent posts about Leo and the Jesus-like image:

Says POTUS shows a "lack of respect for the faith of millions," and calls the Jesus-like image "deeply offensive."

How cool. "The two of us" or "we two" used to be "wit" in English. Also, "it" was originally "hit." Who knew?! This is very cool.

"Direct and compelling, it is the literary equivalent of making good eye contact."

Such a good craft article from @kathyfish.bsky.social on using second person in flash fiction. I want to try out the prompt in here straightaway but I have to work 😒 so saving this for a future date 🤩

Careers - AIP Publishing LLC

Aha - maybe have them take a look at AIP. I'm not sure if they have internships positions, but they do hire freelancers, especially those with a science background. publishing.aip.org/about/careers/

Not sure if you're asking for recommendations for grad programs, but Hopkins has a good MA in Science Writing program. I believe it is all online now. I took just one course in the program (the rest in fiction) and was able to land a good freelance science comm position after getting the MA.
