Small lime green metal bucket is on a woodgrain surface next to a set of clear acrylic drawers. A sign on top of the drawers says “this or that." The left drawer is labeled with a picture of Pete the Cat. The right drawer is labeled with a picture of Jasper Rabbit from Creepy Pair of Underwear. Each of the drawers has several red and blue bingo chips inside.
This week's book character match up at our library's circulation desk features Pete the Cat and Jasper Rabbit. Any predictions on this week's winner? #SchoolLibrary #kidlit #TLSky #EduSky

We each make 4 or 6 servings of something. This week I'll bring in lunch for Monday and Wednesday (Tuesday we have a school fundraiser at a restaurant, so we're ordering that for lunch). She'll bring something for Thursday or Friday. So, we each make something, then trade.

Mediterranean Chicken and Orzo - The Girl on Bloor
This lemony-garlic Mediterranean chicken and orzo with sundried tomatoes & spinach is cooked in one skillet for the perfect weeknight dinner.
My half of lunches for the week are done (I share lunch prep with a colleague). Tried a new recipe that was super easy and smells amazing! Hopefully it will taste as good as it smells.

We have a few books, but didn't use them to start. We did a YouTube choice board with short beginner videos & kept the group small. 4th grade started w/10 complete beginners so my principal, music teacher & I could teach the basics w/the help of kids who knew a little. I've been learning, too.

We have a 4th grader making herself a pair of shorts. I helped one 5th grader learn how to do a drop leaf stitch and a pair of 5th graders learn how to make a magic circle. And the substitute wasn't even working at our school today--she just came by for the crochet club!

Today our principal & music teacher joined 4th grade crochet club. A paraeducator taught a student how to make a granny square & a substitute teacher came in to teach a left-handed student during 5th grade crochet club. It's really become a community! #SchoolLibrary #TLSky #EduSky

When I taught kindergarten I played a guessing game that involved describing kids by their clothes (I’m looking for someone with…, adding specific descriptors to eliminate kids until one was left). That’s how I taught them specific terms for fabrics and patterns.

Cover of picture book Liftoff! How the Apollo Moon Missions Made Alma Thomas's Art Soar, written and illustrated by Nina Crews. Alma Thomas, a middle-aged woman with medium brown skin and gray hair in an updo , is wearing a purple dress topped with a paint splattered light blue smock. She's standing suspended on a cloud above the Earth, holding a paintbrush in her hands clasped behind her back. On the right side of the cover, a spacecraft is soaring rocketing into space.
LIFTOFF! by Nina Crews is the perfect follow up for last week's Artemis II mission. Picture book w/ bold, vibrant artwork frames the Apollo 10 mission thru the eyes of artist Alma Thomas as she creates her work "Snoopy Sees a Sunrise." Informative & inspiring. #kidlit

It’s National Pet Day & a great day for hockey! My very own Badger Bo is rested & ready for today’s NCAA hockey championship game! I have such great memories of cheering the Badgers on in person in Milwaukee when they last won 20 years ago. Hoping that will be the outcome again today. On Wisconsin!

Sign with a smiley face graphic that reads “April is School Library Month! There are 200 smiley faces hidden in the media center. Can our community work together to find them all?” is in a woodgrain table with a plastic box holding an assortment of small multicolored round smiley face beads.
So, this is happening today. A 3rd grader asked what I was going to hide this month, so I got 200 smiley face beads to go with the “Find Your Joy” theme of National Library Week. He grinned ear to ear when I showed him the beads. Let the fun begin! #SchoolLibrary #TLSky #EduSky

Definitely! Most of these are ones that readers added to our running "We Need This Book" list. They know I do my best to get the books that they ask for & want to read. It helps to make reading part of the school culture. There are going to be some excited readers when they see these on the shelves!

Copy of picture book LET'S BE BEES by Shawn Harris on a woodgrain table next to two yellow paper plate bee crafts made by students.
Read LET'S BE BEES by Shawn Harris w/our school community based special education class today, then made paper plate bees. Each bee definitely has its own personality, just like our students. @noveleffect.bsky.social, this one needs a soundscape, please! #SchoolLibrary #kidlit#TLSky #EduSky

Children’s picture books and graphic novels on a woodgrain table
Thanks to @alaneadams.bsky.social and her Operation Fill the Shelves initiative for sending these new books for our school’s media center collection! Most of these are reader requests, so I know they’ll be well loved by our students. #kidlit #SchoolLibrary #ReadingIsAlanezing

Yes! They're super popular with readers at our school, too. Ours tend to gravitate to the graphic novel versions, so I was happy to see so many readers take out the "regular" versions of the book after the author visit.

Today is National School Librarian Day. THANK YOU, school librarians & school library workers. We celebrate you. For so many library kids, the school library is the only place they have access to books. It is where they learn to believe that stories are for them. Thank you for your library joy 💛📚🥹🤟🏽

Graphic with a colorful stack of loosely drawn books. An open book at the top of the stack has sketched icons of rockets, planets, the sun, rainbows, flowers, and leaves coming out of it. The headline of the graphic is "Happy National School Librarian Day!" Beneath the books, the graphic says "A librarian's power is connecting people with the knowledge they seek."
Happy National School Librarian Day!
I've had many different roles during my 30+ years as an educator, but I can definitely say that being a librarian is the very best one, even with the current challenging circumstances.
