💡 Key insights we uncovered: Near-UV light delays mitosis at doses as low as 0.6 J/cm². Longer wavelengths need higher doses, and surprisingly, continuous low-intensity illumination (slow scan) can be more damaging than brief high-intensity bursts (fast scan). Data-driven phototoxicity thresholds! ✨

🚀 Enter PhotoFiTT: a standardise experimental protocol combined with AI-powered image analysis to track cell behaviour (mitosis, size, activity) in response to light exposure. What’s even better: label-free and fully quantitative! 🔍🤖

The challenge: live-cell fluorescence microscopy can unintentionally stress or harm cells, changing timing, size and activity. If left unchecked, this can skew biology and standard qualitative checks just don’t cut it ⚡️ #Microscopy #CellBiology

It’s FINALLY out! 🎉🚀 We have been working on PhotoFiTT for a long time, and it’s now published, introducing a quantitative framework to measure phototoxicity and optimise live-cell microscopy experiments. So excited to finally share the last version! 🔬✨ #PhotoFiTT doi.org/10.1038/s414...

Fantastic work! Elegant experimental evolution with big implications for how cell size can evolve without compromising fitness. Congrats to Ana and collaborators, definitely worth a read for anyone into cell cycle, size control, or evolution 🧬🔄
