Very productive evening, finishing the last (kinda) buildings for my Montcornet table ahead of HoL this sat. The townhall is a placeholder as the real town hall scratch build is delayed (I made it too large..). All are 3d prints that are reentered etc. Plus painted 30ft of latex road!

Designing a theatre feel for a wargames table - check pictures from the era directly or indirectly linked to the battle or conflict, paintings or photos depending on when it occured. Look at a lot of them and make notes, details, buildings, fences, bridges. 1/5
I read it years ago, it was quite interesting but I don't remember anything specific.
Block colours applied to the two test minis. I used a different uniform colour for them, not a very good idea for comparison sake but I wanted this new unit to look different.
Looking at northeastern France, especially the region around the Somme, I am surprised by how many historical buildings visible in 1939 aerial photographs are made of exposed brick. Some even have terracotta roofs. This is not the type of architecture most wargamers typically associate with France.
Added another French concrete road sign to the collection. Bonus points if you can find where the reference picture was taken. www.thingiverse.com/thing:6823716
Today I discovered you can look at older pictures in Google Street view. A partially hidden building in 2024 was completely visible in 2009.
Yes! My French and my BEF are from FiB, but I was hoping for more variety for casseurs or motorised troops.
I believe I have managed to shrink these 3D Breed French in a way that they will mix with the ones from Forged in Battle.

Maybe it has to do with FoW rules and how the teams have to be organised for that game? I know my platoon was for an older version of the rules.
I only have a grenadier platoon from Battlefront (GE702) and I believe it was a full platoon.
You are right! I missed the other prone dude.
A lot of NCOs for a platoon, and not enough riflemen! I was looking at their Early War sprue for the BEF and they have two officers and three NCOs each, but only two Bren gunners. Also, prone Bren gunners and no prone loaders? That's a first.
I was really excited about Flames of War getting into Early War this year, but with their new casting material, all their miniatures look 2D. Never played FoW but I like the convenience of a full platoon out of the box. What a shame.
The canal before and after.
It will look impressive on the table!
The silicone was intended to be used on top of the paint... It dries transparent. Maybe it's a bad idea?
Looks beautiful! How big is it? 😲
Yes, it's intended for 15mm. I was definitely going to use gloss varnish as a final step but I have this transparent silicone I could use.
Yes. I learned my lesson about avoiding blue with my first attempt at a canal. I'm trying to wet mix some colours like light brown and moss green with this one. No success yet but I will keep trying.
Working on a little culvert, no idea how to paint water.
