Yeah I mean that's how I look at it. If you're using the tech to replace a creative process then just get in the fucking sea.
It's a perfect tool for internal company communication. I'm not wasting my time writing some god awful performance self assessment that nobody will read.

Weekly newsletters, monthly YouTube scripts, presentations, consultancy reports, a 130k+ textbook (that is not finished). I'm writing more now than ever.
It robs me - and my audience - to just phone it in.
I now revel in my quirky suboptimal scribblings.
I will never use an LLM to write because it's so important to retain whatever charm exists in my work.
I don't think I'm a particularly good writer, but the only way it might get better is to keep fucking writing!
Besides, my Discord community love finding all the spelling and grammatical errors.
A quick heads up; The UK government is currently holding a consultation on the Online Safety Act. The consultation lasts until the end of next month.
Please fill it out if you live in the UK and/or share it around to get more eyes on it.

In particular we'd love to see more mentors from:

Narrative/Writing
Voice Acting

I gave a talk at AI & Games conf reflecting on whether planners (GOAP, HTN) still have relevance in a world of Gen AI. I see opportunity for neurosymbolic approaches to AI for games that combine symbolic planning with neural language models. Fun live demo at the end.

Had a great time streaming new #indiegame #Replaced last night. Smashed through the first three chapters - though you could tell I was getting tired by the end.
Slick art style.
A fun Arkham Asylum-like combat in 2.5D space
Big 'Flashback' vibes.

I love watching academic publishers exploit authors works for these pointless applications for generative AI in a foolish effort to 'summarise' research papers.
My guys, abstracts are a thing for a reason.
Oh yeah I think that's an unc game (in a good way).
Every games studio, regardless of size or function, needs to have their appropriate AI governance. Be it small (or even micro) indie studios, AA, AAA, co-dev and support teams.
Even if you have zero intention to use AI tools, it brings clarity, reinforces good practice, and becomes enforceable!
RPS asked me to write about DLSS5, the "neural rendering" tech that Nvidia have been crowing about, that uses generative AI techniques to replace rendered graphics. I wrote about framerates, fakery, and how you seize control of an industry.
I’ve added to ability to choose colors for buildings in my upcoming cozy building game, Island Architect.
You also get railings now when building terraces or balconies.

Decided to make no plans for London Game Festival as a client project originally had me out the country next week.
Now it's been pushed back, and I have no plans for London Game Festival...
Streaming live on a cheeky Thursday night. After finishing RE: Requiem last time, we're checking out the indie title 'Aether & Iron': a decopunk narrative RPG with turn-based car combat!

This year’s AIIDE is hosted by the Federal University of Minas Gerais, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil! Nestled in the Pampulha district’s cultural corridor, the campus’ location makes getting to nearby cultural landmarks a breeze.

Look I know we generally hate Generative AI right, but it would help that when we're reporting on AI in the games industry that we do so accurately.
Drawing a line between two disparate events at the same company does not a narrative make.
If you want to iterate faster and ship more stable builds, you should learn about writing automated tests.
I'm offering a few one-day public workshop on test automation in video games, for both unreal and unity devs, Pay What You Want.

I doubt they've got the wherewithal to feel embarrassed about this.
Besides, I've only just noticed there isn't a single PoC in that image, and I feel like it aligns with my perception that it's the pub all the local gammons would drink at.
Apparently faces cost extra on GPT.
Like what the fuck is this shit!?!?
Everybody knows this pub is never this busy. Except maybe when the hordes of the damned come to visit???
A nightmare image of fake ai generated people in front of an old man's boozer
One of the local old man pubs is running an advert in the town magazine for it's annual beer festival and they've used generative AI to make it look like it's this bustling centre of brewing culture.
This nightmare fuel is sending me. I just love it.
Haha, we're still fighting the good fight. Someone has to at this point.
One final plug for some weekend viewing: part 1 of my big 'AI hype is ruining traditional game AI' essay is now a YouTube video.
Will keep working on it throughout the year in between my regular output.

All Sims 4 patch notes should be delivered anecdotally.
If you're not aware the PC versions of Resident Evil 1-3 that were developed and released by GoG a while back came to Steam today.
Ironically they have 3rd party DRM, and so don't run on Steam Deck, but they're like £4 each if that's not a deal-breaker.
Live in five for what could be the last stream of Resident Evil: Requiem. Having a great time playing this, and we've had some really fun chats about it during previous streams.

Move over Larian, the 'AI and Games' award for 'biggest PR cock-up' has just found its latest winner.
Regardless of how big their current market share is, DLSS5 has pushed so far into the ridiculous that whatever trust players still had is lost, and that will impact them in the long run.
For me the AI and Games YouTube channel is about providing a platform for sharing good practice; hence I avoid injecting my own thoughts into much of the editorial.
But it's time for a change of pace. We need to start talking about the real issues AI is facing and causing in the games industry.
