It's taken much longer than expected, but the update for the new transportation system is finally live!
Global storage is out and supply lines are in! (All while staying away from too much micromanagement!)

There's something deeply satisfying when you can replace a system with the change of single line of code.
Redoing my range indication has been on my todo list for a long while. Today it finally happend ๐ฅณ

I had a similar thought! ๐ But I used the same batch of keys for friends and such. Oh well.
Not sure how to feel about this email. They wanted to make sure they weren't getting screwed over by the people who lied about how they'd use game keys. ๐
I mean... Okay... Hope they enjoy the game. ๐คทโโ๏ธ

Here we go! Today's the day. After 3 years of off and on work, Deep Space Directive is in Early Access!
It's a scary day, but an exciting day.

Glad the UI scaling is helpful. Can't promise its perfect :)
The demo isn't going any where any time soon! I'd much rather lose a sale then have someone spend money and be unhappy - so the plan is to leave the demo up.
๐ Hopefully DSD can scratch an itch! I love resource management games and really wanted one that didn't get too deep into the weeds of complexity and become a second job.
Would love to hear your thoughts if you play it.
Thanks! The game is admitedly more resource management than classic RTS, the combat keeps you on your toes, but building your colony is the real focus.
And I'll happily take "decent tutorial" all day long!
Feels amazing to have folks speak kindly about my game.

Deep Space Directive releases in a little over a week! ๐คฏ
Plenty of times I didn't think the project would make it. I learned a lot along the way. Feels good - even if there's a lot more to do.

It always seems like a good idea to add more Steam achievements until I have to make icons for them...
They aren't perfect. They aren't amazing. But they are done!!

Low poly scene showing a new UI menu with choices for what the building should produce.
I really didn't like using a dropdown to change building production. On so many layers it just didn't work.
So I redesigned it. Now players get a popout menu with a ton more info. #gamedev #indiegamedev
I taught a Geometry class using "Geometry Labs." It used all kinds of manipulatives to build understanding and rules. Self paced, using students' own words, and rigorous in every way that was actually important. Kids actually enjoyed class!
So many fond memories.
As a failed math student and former math (and physics) teacher, I used to say that math was one of the easiest subjects to teach and one of the hardest to teach right.
If I ever comment that math is a creative subject I get deeply confused looks even concerned looks :)
Looks really nice!
Yep! I day job as a Unity developer for a small software company (out of state) and then do some game dev and occasionally make YT videos on the side.
@oldgameraj.bsky.social Another Boise dev! I knew there were more folks out there.
Having some fun and slowly creeping towards an early access build. #gamedev #indiegamedev #ScreenshotSaturday
For me, personal and gamedev stuff is separated by email account and such, but same computer user account.
I do have a separate computer for work - no desire to mix work projects with personal projects.
A player suggested adding a search feature to the (procedural) tech tree. Seemed like a mighty good suggestion. So I did it.

I've been away from my project for a few weeks due to family stuff. It feels so good to be back at it.
I had needed a break after getting ready for Steam Next Fest. I definitely got one. ๐
Really looks good! Added to my wishlist :)
Ha ha! The joy of distracting yourself with moving lightings. I should go make dinner.

Having more fun with particles and awaitable functions. Gives me flashbacks to multi-variable calculus class :)

Ha! All you folks with your pretty #screenshotsaturday images. It's Saturday so I'm staring at my todo list! :)
Its a good one!
Playing around with @unity.com new awaitable functions and moving particles. Was able to move the math calculations to a second thread - cutting the performance hit on the main thread to 25%. Not too shabby. ๐๐๐

There's something deeply satisfying with removing allocations and seeing the GC drop in the profiler.
Still got a way to go, but slowly chipping away :)
