Aunts.
PG Wodehouse wrote some learned treatises on their delphic pronouncements and actions.
Isn't the Crime in Crimea enough for him?
It wasn't a vintage #newsnight last night, but they never are these days, now it's a magazine. The smirking child in the red tie was, to be charitable, perhaps overtired and way past his bedtime. His breathtaking hypocrisy about Tory cronyism was at least taken down by @vicderbyshire.bsky.social
It comes to something when you can't stand the smell of your own farts.
The New York Times Vance Says the Pope Should Be More Careful When Talking About Theology
This one is a close second for unimprovability, I humbly submit.
And, I think, historically more accurate but I wasn't sure it would pass the sensors! Obviously it did...๐
Absolutely - I invested 99 pence of my hard-earned on a Kobo version and, just over half way through (started the Defence section), am completely gripped. As a procedural and with unreliable narrators all over the shop, it's great.
I made the mistake - absolutely desperate as I was, a Brit on business to U.S., for a cup of tea - of buying one of these thinking it was just a poncy translation of Tea With Milk.
Oh boy, do I have a strong gag reflex. Just about managed to keep everything down.
Kept the receipt for exes, though.
Still lost him in Perugia straight out of a NATO meeting (post Salisbury poisoning) though, didn't they?
I always thought he was a bit of a Canute.
Do you think UK Gov has the balls to do so, or will they hide behind 'the inviolability of contracts' and some such lawyerly talk (the sort of talk that allowed multi-national IT system and service providers to behave appallingly across multiple Govt Depts with impunity)?
I loved the 'oh no, I've got to fill out an F.183 to indent for a car' type bureaucracy in Ipcress File.
Vote for Slow Horses.
I've just finished reading The Secret Hours by Nick Herron which is in the same universe, but on a branch line. Dealing with flashback to just post-Wall Berlin as seen through the lens of a present day enquiry. Would like to see that televised. Minimal kiss kiss bang bang.
Wasn't that Love Island?
I think the marvel was that any of them could like, wha'ever?, string a sen'ence togevvah?
There's always [at least] two unencrypted ends to every encrypted message...
"Cherchez le plume de ma Tante, Rodney. Cherchez le plume.."
"Oh Lord" St Joan didst cry, "couldst though not aquire a Mercedes Benz, against my foes all of whom are in possession of Porches."
And the Lord did reply, "When I get my moped back on the road, I'm gonna ride, ride and thrice ride."
The Book of Carrott, Jaspers 19 -78
But thanks be to God, who always leads us on Triumph;
Neither Norton does he ride, nor BSA.
Yet, lo! Beware of Richard, son of Thom,
who rideth an One Thousand, Nine Hundreds, Two Score and Twelve Vincent of indeed Lightning Black.
I have asked a few times and no-one's come up with a convincing answer -perhaps because no-one's convinced - why, almost uniquely, UK pegs electricity to the price of generating it by gas, now that much of the time it's done by cheaper renewables. We're wilfully shooting ourselves in the foot.
Reminds me of the Bob Monkhouse gag:
"They all laughed when I said I wanted to be a comedian. Well, they're not laughing now."
Rupert Lowe impersonating Davros, evil overlord with the intent to Restore the Daleks
For the life of me, I cannot put my finger on who Rupe reminds me of.
And who did they get to comment? Dubai Dick. Pressure of time precluded asking him about principles of taxation & representation, sadly.
"Excuse me, steward, but where are the nearest toilets?"
"The heads, sir? Port side."
"Heavens! I can't wait that long!"
But I just ticked the box to say I am not a Robert.
I can feel Eddie's in the space-time continuum.
If he can swim from Buda to Pest (and back again) with the Ball and Chain of Destiny, then he shall be the Once and Future President.
If not, we shall just mark the charts as Hazard to Navigation, Do Not Anchor Here.
Either way...
Seems from the last sentence he's not sure whether the Pope is Catholic or Protestant, or maybe he's just giving the Big Guy a get-out.
Since being spanked by St Rory of TRIP, he's now just going after easier prey. Like Pontiffs.
And it's 'Ten Stories' high, is it? What is it - a pile of paperbacks? It is 'Storeys' you ignorant fucks, unless they're building it in the U.S., in which case luck off over there and see if you can afford oncology care.
A signpost that says F A R A G E in olde English ( B E L L E N D )
Well, next time he's in Worcestershire (that's in England, Nigel) a warm welcome awaits him here in his namesake hamlet:
