Basidiek, the Living Sea. He's a sentient coral reef the size of New Zealand. He's friendly and curious, and loves to hear stories from the Dry People, he thinks they're funny. Unless you can breathe water, he's only accessible from a couple islands where he pokes above the surface.

Most barriers are nuisances, not hard defenses. They canalize traffic for tax inspections. Walled cities exist, but magic usually makes traditional castles overpriced, much like gunpowder changed defenses in the real world.

I remember house-ruled d&d games with str instead of levels. Lvl drain was a huge pain in the neck for spellcasters. I like the simplicity of it. I miss using actual stats; I hate that only the mod actually matters in 5e 🫤
