The award was given to @profmsinha.bsky.social for her book “The Rise and Fall of the Second American Republic: Reconstruction, 1860-1920,” which the prize committee praised as “a powerful and important work” that “offers a sweeping and compelling reinterpretation of Reconstruction.”
Thanks so much for the shout out!

Congratulations to @profmsinha.bsky.social, who received the 2026 @shgape.bsky.social Presidents’ Book Prize. Our Deputy Director Axel Jansen, who chaired the prize committee, presented the award to Prof. Sinha at last week’s @oah.org annual meeting in Philadelphia.

Historian here the best thing happening on Twitter is the Pope’s tweets roasting and ratioing the MAGAts. Never been a big fan of the Catholic Church but Pope Leo has me thinking of Rerum Novarum and my days as a student in a Catholic school.
Pope category on @jeopardyofficial.bsky.social today too!
Nice clue on @jeopardyofficial.bsky.social on George Mason and his criticism of the slave trade. His speech is a banger!
The Reagan counterrevolution only deepened America's problems. It turned the country against government and against taxation. Remember, after eight Republican years in the 1950s, with George Humphrey as Secretary of the Treasury, the highest marginal tax rate was 91 percent. Contrast that with the situation last year when the rich acted as if raising it from 28 to 32 percent were the end of Western Civilization. So overwhelming is that opposition, that politicians who privately see no other alternative to raising taxes, remain silent, because to favor tax hikes publicly would be political suicide.

House Judiciary Dems will soon launch an investigation on this.
Stay tuned.

Trump continues to crater. New NBC poll has his approval down to 37-63, which is 26 points underwater.
Crucially, 50% disapprove *strongly.* Has any other president had half the country strongly disapproving?

Ossoff: "How does American politics really work? It's coin operated. Money goes in, favors come out. It's been running on secret money, corporate money, billionaire money ... all of this gave rise to a depraved president who exploits this rot to empower and enrich himself"
I share Steve’s concerns. An observation:
The Court’s immense power, such as it is, is contingent upon its at least plausibly appearing to do law. This may seem like an academic debate, but it’s literally over whether the Court is doing law or something else. That matters.
Coachella is trying to wipe all of the footage of The Strokes protest set so I’m gonna post it here. The last images on the screen made me cry.
Thanks Greg!

Sarah Isgur QTing the NYT shadow docket story: In 2014 and 2015, the Court used the “shadow docket” to stop Texas’ anti-abortion restrictions from going into effect while the case was pending. The left was thrilled with the shadow docket at that point—years before this case even existed…
Isgur is such a fucking hack. the case she’s referring to is one where the 5th Circuit entered a stay and it was appealed to SCOTUS. the case in the Times story involved the Court intervening to stay an EPA rule while a lower court was still adjudicating the issue.
