The real founders of our democracy were those who took the promises in the Declaration of Independence literally, the people who rejected the hypocrisy of its ideals and declared that its words would have meaning in their lives, too. @errinhaines.bsky.social on Elizabeth Freeman via @19thnews.org

Trump just called Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson a "Low IQ person." He has a long history of calling women of color dumb or 'low IQ'.
More big news! @shefali.bsky.social and Mel Leonor Barclay are Livingston Finalists for their series about the impact recent immigration efforts have had on immigrants who are pregnant and/or new mothers. wallacehouse.umich.edu/livingston-a...
An incredible day to see my colleagues @shefali.bsky.social and Mel recognized for their work documenting the harms that ICE has wrought on pregnant women and their children. This is crucial reporting on immigrant communities
Every month on average, more than 70 women are shot and killed by an intimate partner, according to Everytown for Gun Safety. “At the point when a woman is choosing to try and leave a violent and abusive partner, it means that the violence has escalated for some time.” via @19thnews.org
Exclusive: new research from the National Women’s Defense League and shared first with The 19th, has tracked 30 allegations of workplace sexual misconduct against members of Congress made since 2006 — a number the report’s authors say is likely 3-4x higher in reality 19thnews.org/2026/04/sexu...
President Donald Trump’s second Cabinet was never exceptionally diverse from the start. And in the past two months, three women have been fired or resigned. @gracepanetta.bsky.social via @19thnews.org
Even with backlash to #MeToo & intense partisan divisions, sexual misconduct & assault are rare issues that cross party lines. Three Rs sided with Dems to compel release of the Epstein files. New revelations drew near-immediate recriminations across the political spectrum. @gracepanetta.bsky.social
“The numbers of people they’re serving every year may have stayed flat, or even gone down a little bit, but they’re spending more time with each victim, and each victim has more holistic and complicated needs,” Engel said.
Stunning, terrible news. Praying for their children.
The nonprofit that runs the successful, Pulitzer-winning Baltimore Banner is going to take over the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Of all the possible outcomes here, this is likely the best we could have hoped for.

The past two state Supreme Court elections in Wisconsin, both won by liberals, have drawn record levels of spending and national attention due to the state’s status as a perennial battleground. https://bit.ly/3OrtmcP
Trump is escalating an illegal war, threatening massive war crimes and targeting civilian infrastructure in Iran. In the last 48 hours alone, the rhetoric has crossed every line. Pete Hegseth is complicit. I’ve called for the 25th Amendment and am introducing Articles of Impeachment against Hegseth.

“The weight of that calculation is the same weight for every single survivor in the farm worker industry. They’re not thinking about the movement, but they’re thinking about: ‘Will my family be able to work next year?’ ‘Will I be abandoned in the field?’ ‘Will I be killed?’”
Adelanto Processing Center. Headline reads “14th Death In ICE Custody This Year: Man Dies at Adelanto ICE Processing Center On Wednesday Night”
Text reads: A man died while in custody at the Adelanto ICE Processing Center on Wednesday night. L.A. TACO spoke with the Immigrant Defenders Law Center, which stated that detainees witnessing the incident made outbound calls to their rapid response hotline. The detainees stated that a man was showing symptoms of overheating and had difficulty breathing. According to ImmDef, the detainees said he had removed his shirt after feeling like he was suffocating, and alleged that the facility’s medical staff didn’t respond until after the man was unresponsive. The man was transported to a nearby hospital, and the family was told he passed away under their care. However, the detainees in the facility allege and maintain that he had already passed away at the facility in his bunk bed. According to We Keep Us Safe 1312, a local community watch team working with the family, the man was 52-years-old. This is a developing story.
14th death under ICE custody that we know of. We will update this story as soon as we get more details.
We reached out to ICE and DHS on Wednesday night and have received no response.
