Bo Gritz—survivalist, conspiracy theorist, presidential candidate of the Populist Party, militia group whisperer—has died, at 87. I thought this guy might be the most 100% completely-what-he-seemed-to-be person of my lifetime until I found out he didn’t pronounce his last name to rhyme with “Blitz.”

They aren’t going to stop killing people because escalation is what they seek. This isn’t about norms or institutions. Miller, Bannon, and the whole Trump machine don’t care about rules. And the base is being trained to accept “emergency” measures, extreme violence, even murder, as normal.

Rejecting Trump's imperialism doesn't require laundering Mauduro's legitimacy. Beneath the deluge of state-centric accusations and counters are people whose lives are shaped by forces they don't control. Any serious critique must center them, not competing political or IR narratives.

It's no mistake that ICE is nested within DHS. It is all pointing to political and legal arguments to use force against political enemies. Part of the violence and spectacle is to create the conditions for those encounters to happen. The precedents exist to justify what happens next.
