Thanks to the lawsuit over book bans by the Department of Defense Education Activity, we now know the nearly 600 books banned in US military schools worldwide.
The list prominently features LGBTQ+ books, books about racism, puberty titles, and comics.

This piece needs serious contemplation. Can the #majorquestionsdoctrine undo some of this mess or at least put it on pause to stop the hemorrhaging of our rights? #SCOTUS.

Today's US EO orders the Attorney General to identify + take expeditious action to stop enforcement of "all State & local laws... purporting to address “climate change” or involving “environmental, social, and governance” initiatives, “environmental justice,” carbon or “greenhouse gas” emissions."
Let's stand with Corey Booker until he can stand no longer. Go over to his youtube channel and stand with him!
The illustrated cover of a picture book called HAMSTERS MAKE TERRIBLE ROOMMATES, with an annoyed-looking brown hamster giving the side-eye to an exuberant white hamster as they both dwell behind the metal bars of a cage
Nice news: HAMSTERS MAKE TERRIBLE ROOMMATES by me & @abhialwar.bsky.social has been nominated for the Illinois state reading award! This is its sixth state award nomination (it’s won two). drive.google.com/file/d/1rlQM...

A poster supporting libraries and the economic boycott on February 28th that highlights books and the freedom of speech and the freedom to read freely.
Because I am a librarian, I also made this poster highlighting another reason I am doing an economic boycott: Our 1st Amendment rights and public libraries are under assault. You can find free & fun things to do today during your $ boycott at your local public library. Free people read freely!
Yes, indeed, #ReadAlouds are magic. Years ago, I made this poster thingy to share with educator and library folks about that magic.
Thank you Representative Casten. Please keep fighting for us!
Thank you Governor Pritzker. I feel so grateful and proud to be from Illinois. Your words and leadership are incredibly powerful and motivating. You inspire us to keep up our courage and not let go of our hope for a better democracy. Please continue to model how true leaders should act and unite us
Tyranny requires your fear and your silence and your compliance.
Democracy requires your courage.
So gather your justice and humanity, Illinois, and do not let despair overcome us when our country needs us the most.
My oath is to the Constitution of our state and of our country.
We don’t have kings in America – and I don’t intend to bend the knee to one.
I am not speaking up in service to my ambitions — but in deference to my obligations.
Last week, I introduced a bill with @rephaleystevens.bsky.social to prevent Elon Musk from accessing US citizens' private data.
All it takes now is for three House Republicans to be willing to stand up to Donald Trump and Elon Musk and for the American people.
What a perfect way to start the New Year! Without hope, we are nothing. Thanks for this post @donalynbooks.bsky.social
Merry Christmas Ame! Thank you for always posting authentic, funny, heartfelt posts!
