Very sad to hear about the passing of one of my favorite athletes. Garrett Anderson was everything I loved about baseball when I was a young fan. Even before I really understood what it meant to be aesthetically pleasing, I was mesmerized by the grace of his play. www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/...

I'm also pretty haunted by this recent ESPN analysis which, to be fair, seems too superficial to be definitive, but when we keep insisting upon "7 seconds or less" regardless of clientele I start to worry that we'll always be playing catch-up against more talented teams www.espn.com/nba/story/_/...
That's a great point. I agree that NY is an easier sell than TOR or ORL. The Magic are a special kind of mess to @dmmgetc.bsky.social's point but Toronto as a model *really* freaks me out. That seems like a team fully committed to mediocrity.
oh for sure. I’m just thinking that both seem designed based on this philosophy “what if we had a deep, switchy, scrappy roster“ and both manage to be way less than the sum of their parts. Though to be fair I was intrigued by Orlando before the season started and it was an almost immediate disaster.
I have a very real fear that we’re trying to build a team in the vein of the Magic or Raptors, easily the year’s two least threatening playoff teams across either conference

In activist spaces there's always this balance, maybe even a full blown dialectic, between trying to engage with those who disagree and protecting ourselves from them, especially those who actively want to harm us. These decisions are delicate and often personal as well as collective. 1/
Very good news. And a five-year timeline is pretty fast by municipal standards.
Also:
"The city has roughly three million parking spaces, and full trash containerization is expected to take about 150,000 spaces, or 5 percent."
really good images of the model of NYC they made for the hudsucker proxy from an old issue of cinefex
Cannot recommend this one highly enough. Also found it through the post from @clairewillett.bsky.social and not only did it feel so good to not give my money to TurboTax, I added all of the bells and whistles they offered and it was *still* cheaper.
i love when i log into something and it tells me some shit like Notification Hub is now Alert Village
to me the pitt is a love letter to new york city – a town it lovingly accepts, warts and all. in a sense, new york is almost the show's main character

They tell me that guns don’t kill people, people kill people. But this suggests that projectiles do not require human intervention.
Most of us know of "bubblegum" as a FLAVOR, but it's actually banana, pineapple, cinnamon, clove & wintergreen esters blended together, first formulated in 1928 by accountant Walter Diemer for his product, "Dubble Bubble."
He also dyed the grey product pink.
You know how Rome had republican institutions but in times of crisis they'd appoint a dictator with absolute power? What if we did that but we appointed our worst guy in a time of relative peace and prosperity? Now I know what you're thinking: why would we do that? Well it's to mix things up

It's frequently pointed out that NASA activities (and basic/exploratory science in general) have a fantastic return on investment, contributing far more to the economy than they take. But even if they didn't, no one's actually taking from the "cure sick people" pot to put money in the "rockets" pot.

Isaac Chotiner: You say the two cats who live in your house are "Jerks" and you don't care for them
Me: Absolutely. They are the burdens of my life
Chotiner: It seems you spent an hour searching for special food for them and paid more for it than you do even for your own food.
Me: That's--Hold on,
Heck of a night for the tank 🎉
Don't get me wrong: I'm relieved that this case is shaping up as either 8-1 or 7-2 against the Trump executive order. But the case is a gift to the Supreme Court. By rejecting an outlandish position, it will earn credibility as apolitical, even as the Overton window moves far to the right.
