When did the phrase “I appreciate you” replace “Thank you”?

Happy May 4th. Live long and prosper.
Fear and hate have been weaponized.
Fight back with courage and love.
Watching Corey Booker make history. It’s inspiring.
The new season of Reacher is based in Maine, but I have never visited “Abbotville”. Doesn’t look like any Maine town that I know of. Don’t get me started on the accents.
Who is on your Mount Rushmore for late night talk show hosts? My list is Johnny Carson, David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel and Craig Ferguson.
As far as the economic blackout today, people need to adjust their spending habits as an ongoing basis. Buy local whenever possible.
Secret to our success? We have always treated it as a business first and hobby second. Customer service is key.
In two weeks we will be celebrating our 38th store anniversary. We have seen just about everything in the comics market over the years, including stores, publishers and distributors who come and go.
On this snowy Sunday we rewatched the Super Bowl highlights from last week. What a totally dominating performance by Philly. Very satisfying!
I have been reading and watching a lot of things about SNL’s 50th anniversary. I have been watching since season one. For me the musical guests are more interesting than the comedy.
I keep buying guitars that I don’t find time to play. The only solution is to form a band. Who’s in?
Still getting the hang of Bluesky. Are hashtags a thing here? Tagging people? Please school me.
I love coming into work on Valentine’s Day and seeing the paper hearts all over the city, courtesy of the Valentine Bandit. This has been happening for decades.
In our stores the employees can listen to whatever they like. You never know what you are going to hear when you walk in. Personally I am a big fan of Little Steven’s Underground Garage on Sirius/ XM.
Our store in Portland is located below ATHLETA. They play music in their store loud enough for us to hear. It is the same one hour or so playlist that repeats on a loop. They haven’t changed it in MONTHS. Doesn’t matter who the band is, I don’t need to hear the same song 3-4 times EVERY DAY!
All opinions expressed in this account are my personal opinions, although really our stores share the same values. Sometimes I am going to post about things besides comics.
I have been driving an electric car (NOT A TESLA) for a few years and it is the best car I have ever owned. There were great tax incentives at the time. I suspect they are gone now. Glad I installed our solar panels in 2020. Incentives made it affordable.
Well, it was fun while it lasted….time to update the sign.
After next week we will be the oldest retail tenant on our entire block, and one of the older ones in the Old Port. I can think of a handful of businesses who were here before us but not many.
We aren’t going anywhere….
Lately I’ve been feeling like we are in a real life version of Survivor, and we are the last one on the island, or in our case, the basement.
Our dear friend Anthony Barrasso is retiring at age 84 and will be closing Anthony’s Italian Kitchen on February 7th. They have been our neighbors for 30 years! We wish them all the best. Come grab a slice of pizza.
As far as the publishers and vendors owed money by Diamond Comics, I feel badly but wonder why they allowed them to fall so far behind in payments.
Many of Diamond Comics problems were self inflicted. Because they were essentially a monopoly they were slow to respond to changes in the market. Their bankruptcy will have zero impact on us as retailers.
Regarding Diamond Comics Distribution, I find it ironic that initially back in the 1990’s they pushed for exclusive deals with publishers which drove other distributors under. Now that the exclusivity is gone to other distributors they feel the pinch. #karma
I haven’t been this excited for a Superman movie since 1978!
So we are here! Casablanca Comics is Maine's oldest (and coolest) comic book store(s). We specialize in graphic novels and vintage back issues. We are always buying. We hope to use this platform to share news, etc. We'll see how it goes.
