U.S. Depression Rate Remains Elevated The percentage of U.S. adults who report currently having or being treated for depression is 19.1%, among the highest measures in Gallup's trend.

GOOD HEAVENS!

It's as if working one's ass off to *not* be able to afford basic needs while watching our freedoms whither away as they are consolidated to an uber-wealthy oligarchy and people die of preventable disease while AI takes jobs is depressing!

This is your fault, Martha’s Vineyard dinner party hosts. If only you had been as nice as the people on Epstein Island, this poor beleaguered man would still be cited on Fox News as “even liberal Alan Dershowitz.” But not anymore. You just had to take it too far.

Mamdani: "What are we fighting for?. When you look back at the history books of our party, 100 years ago we had a very clear vision of what we were fighting for. It's sad that for too many Americans, when they want to look for ambition in the Democratic Party, then have to turn to a history book."

Five takeaways from our investigation into Rep. Cory Mills From stolen valor to a restraining order, here’s what we found.

Cory Mills, who served in the Army from 1999 to 2003, spent a few months of that time in Iraq. Adam Ehrhardt, a medic who once served directly under Mills, told Mother Jones:

“I wouldn’t piss on him if he was on fire.”

seven months on beehiiv, by the numbers was leaving substack worth it?

There's a lot of talk about leaving Substack & whether it will be the death-knell of your newsletter. I have been on Beehiiv for 7 months now & @tlpavlich.gay helped me run some numbers. So, was leaving Substack worth it? The answer, for me, has been a resounding "yes."

Here are the hard numbers:

Schumer postpones book tour due to ‘security concerns’ amid anger from Democrats over government funding fight | CNN Politics Chuck Schumer has postponed his book tour events amid anger from within the Democratic Party over the Senate minority leader’s handling of the government funding fight in Congress.

As far as I can tell, Chuck Schumer hasn't had a public event since he canceled his book tour re: "security concerns" over a year ago.

Just an excuse to avoid questions? Or Chuck, like GOP pols, really thinks all peasants w hard questions are inherently violent?

If you win, you have to explain why you don't do shit that your bosses, AIPAC or other, don't order despite what you allegedly stand for.

A lot of people are still in the denial about how much the median Democratic voter, the median Democratic volunteer, and the median Democratic activist has shifted on a variety of issues. Well here's the handpicked candidate of Chuck Schumer being booed, about Gaza, at the Dem convention.

Centrist Dems won’t shut up about how we’re too mean and condescending to Trump voters and how electoral expediency requires us to welcome them back into the fold.

Maybe that’s true and maybe it’s not, but it’s bizarre not to extend the same argument to people who already vote for you.

What an assface. If you were actively trying to lose would you do anything different than what Cory is doing? Or what Dem leadership does? Are they getting huge checks to lose on purpose? Because if this is them trying, quit and buy a Mister Softee truck. At least you'd be bringing joy to people

If you *do* believe that Substack can drive readers from one publication to another, and you *do* know that there are Nazis on Substack, well... hmm. What are you saying, here?

1 day ago 93 10 3 0

One thing that's worth repeating: There is *zero* evidence that "substack helps you get readers". The only thing that we've ever seen that helps grow an audience is other authors mentioning your blog or newsletter, which is not the platform's doing. Substack just takes credit for that!
