Why is something so punitive-minded in Reason of all places?

Really great, short, succinct assessment of a question that gets asked all the time without its core phrase ever really being truly defined.
James O'Keefe used undercover video to destroy an organization, illegally attempted to wiretap a congressional office, bought Ashley Biden's stolen diary (the thieves were convicted) but Trump ended the investigation, and now he is organizing undercover hit videos of random government employees.
Obama certainly got blamed for TARP and the other unpopular Wall Street bailouts that mostly happened under Bush. Later, there was an entire news cycle blaming Obama for bailed-out AIG paying big bonuses (which Obama had no control over or authority to stop because of how Bush designed the bailouts)
"Carter lost Vietnam" was the original "Biden was in charge for all the Covid lockdowns" bsky.app/profile/niss...
This is genuinely one of the foundational copes of the modern conservative movement, a stabbed-in-the-back narrative about why the US lost Vietnam
New: Peter and Lydia Brimelow of VDARE face discovery in the lawsuit issued by the NY AG.
This could expose the names of white nationalist donors and activists who’ve stayed in the shadows for years:

like, academics who use conceptual analysis to flatten out power differences are REALLY part of the problem
i hate to be that person, but if you (the author of the piece) are so dumb that you think that someone asking for more sensitive language at an event is equivalent to the use of state power to curb speech maybe your stupidity is part of the problem with higher ed
liberals created the new deal and the great society specifically because limited government conservatism had fucked up so royally. we were way too polite to the reagan/bush/bush ii types.
the first time one of these guys was like "i really think cutting taxes for the super rich will lead to economic growth," that person should have been stuffed in a locker. our failure to bully and shame dumb shit has really hurt us all.
many of our problems would have been solved if, in the 80s and 90s, democrats/liberals had responded to gop ideas with a lot more "that's the fucking stupidest thing ive ever heard, shut the fuck up" instead of "that's an interesting idea, i have a different take..."
What do you do if a foreign adversary feels emboldened to use diseases against U.S. armed forces because you’re publicizing how many unvaccinated troops you have? Adversaries are not going to care if your soldier bros can brag about being a “pureblood” on a Joe Rogan podcast.
Just the dumbest motherfuckers doing the dumbest shit because they think it proves some idiotic point.
Jumping the gun to incorporate technology into the classroom? You don't say!

I practically grew up in a religious cult. After freeing myself, I studied cognitive dissonance at length. I have observed all types of cultish behavior, but this is beyond the pale. I have never seen anything like this blind worship of an ignorant, bloated, racist con man.
a real testament to stefanik’s total lack of dignity that she is doing this AFTER trump totally threw her under the bus, backed up, and ran her over just to be sure
Since the Surprise warehouse the mayor has thrown up his hands up and pretended there’s nothing he can do to stop, or even stall, a concentration camp from being built in his community. Now he’s doing everything he can to ensure it gets built as fast as possible. Fucking ghoul freak.
July 2017. Trump gives a wildly inappropriate and incoherent speech at the Boy Scout Jamboree. Somehow we as a nation decided to give nuclear weapons to a guy you wouldn’t even trust to feed your cat when you go out of town for the weekend.

Just in case anyone forgot, the nat'l leaders of Uncommitted begged the DNC to let them endorse Harris at the convention, then begged them for a meeting with her, got blown off, then told people to vote against Trump anyway. There was definitely someone not thinking past 1st order consequences!
The Arc de Triomphe was commissioned to honor Napoleon in 1806. By the time construction had really begun in earnest, Napoleon had suffered a disastrous military defeat and had been forced into exile.
Ms Boylan’s strength of character is encouraging to woman that we will not be pushed out of government. 🇺🇸
Buckle up, the Big Lie Machine is about to be turned up to 11.
The company run by the guy who literally said “I talk to nazis all the time online” while on camera? futurism.com/future-socie...
In the same manifesto, Palantir's owners argued that we need a national military draft, that soft power is over, and that we were too hard on Germany and Japan after World War II. I don't think that company should be allowed to exist anymore.
If you watch and share one thing today make at this. Why is every democrat in the country not talking like this?
I keep saying: Ossoff is going to win in Georgia by double digits or close to it and if he wants to turn that into a presidential run he will immediately be one of the favorites
That’s why I think Hoover is a good comparison here. Hoover was way smarter than Trump but too rigid to vary from the economic orthodoxy of his time. Both are going to leave the American people suffering for the next 2 yrs & not lifting a finger to improve their lives.
Most presidents usually enact some policy measure to manage the discontent, however. Trump just keeps doubling and tripling and quadrupling down on the shit that makes him unpopular because he is either incapable of understanding why he's unpopular or doesn't give a fuck.
We got the New Deal b/c the American people went thru 2+ yrs of pain under Hoover w/o Hoover doing anything about it. The Dems have the opportunity for another New Deal here but I fear they will blow it & think way too small.
