Swalwell leaving Congress is the right outcome, morally and politically, and good that it moved quickly from credible accusations to resignation without going through a dragged out process. That probably doesn’t happen without Democrats in Congress making it clear they’d kick him out if he didn’t.
It's true electorally when that's still an option, and it's even more true for extra-electoral opposition under fully entrenched regimes. Democratic socialists to traditionalist conservatives and everything in between. If you're on the right side of "should we be a democracy?," you're in.
On a more serious note, this does show the necessity of a big-tent single-issue pro-democracy coalition. Autocrats lose when anti-authoritarianism is the opposition-uniting priority, and win when they can play divide and conquer on lesser issues.
