yeah, there's definitely a slight air of "sorry, we have proof this isn't how it would go now" in the first couple of episodes. It's not terrible, and I don't think it's significantly worse than the last couple of seasons.

Like the point is that The Deep is pathetic, but they don't push it far enough. The point is that Homelander is a fascist losing his grip on what he thinks defines him, but that isn't really an interesting parody of society, or giving the storyline any real pep. Could be set up, but idk.

First couple of episodes of The Boys S5 watched. I think it's pushing up against the dual problem of attempting to parody America while being part of an American corporation and in the American Hollywood sphere, and trying to maintain being funny/gross. It really feels like it's lacking teeth.

Hell of a thing to come out of a shitty, mean-spirited little comic book written by a psychopath. And I LIKE the comic, I think it's fun and brutal and better at what it does than the show is, while being worse in every other conceivable way.

The Boys finishes tomorrow. While I think it got lost in the weeds of its own spinoffs and some of the shock-humour, plus it's a deep shame the final season was written before the 2024 election, nothing's encapsulated the last 5-10 years of politics-n-TV better.
